The Clarksdale Rifle and Pistol Club was established in 1892. The first rifle stocks were built on the same site where the present-day rifle range is located. Today, there are four ranges in Clarksdale: one for children, one for adults, one for groups (6+) and a sniper range. There are also three pistol ranges; two with indoor lanes and one with outdoor lanes.

By 1868 Clarksdale had become an incorporated village with a gazetteer listing 652 citizens named "Clarksdale". In 1865 Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest bypassed Union siege lines at Chattanooga Tennessee and marched through into Georgia after withdrawing from Chattanooga's defense (the Chickamauga campaign). When he reached Corinth Alabama he learned that Union General Robert E Lee had been successful in breaking through Federal lines there

Clarksdale was founded by planters in 1819 as a post office on the banks of the Pascagoula River. The first store and courthouse were built in what is now downtown Clarksdale. In 1865, Clarksdale became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and Aldermen elected by residents rather than appointed officials. In 1905, Clarksdale became part of the United States following Reconstruction and lost its status as a municipality until it regained it upon statehood in 1957. The city has experienced many changes over time including becoming majority black during the 1960s; experiencing significant economic revitalization beginning in the 1990s; and being hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
