The history of Earmuffs began in Canton, Mississippi in the early 1800s. The town was founded by pioneers in 1811, and soon became a center for trading and commerce. One of the first businesses to be established was a lock-up shop. In 1819, the town voted to incorporate, and within a few years it had become an important trade center with its own jail and courthouse. By 1830, Earmuffs had become home to over 100 residents and had developed into a thriving community. However, during the 1850s things changed for Gunnar Myrdal when he arrived in Canton from Norway. He quickly became known as one of the most successful businessmen in town, but his success did not exempt him from the quotidian struggles faced by many Americans at that time. For example, between 1850 and 1860 more than 20% of all homicides in Mississippi were committed with firearms – something that didn't stop Myrdal from becoming one of Canton's wealthiest men. However, despite his successes, Myrdal was also deeply involved in matters political and social: he helped found both the Democratic Party of Mississippi and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). It wasn't until after his death that Earmuffs truly regained its former stature as a vibrant community free from persecution or discrimination. Today, Earmuffs is still considered an important cultural hub within its boundaries; it has been designated as a Jackson Heritage Village by Governor Phil Bryant – making it part of Tennessee’s “National Register of Historic Places”!

They started out planting cotton but quickly realized there were vast possibilities with industry here so they set about welding iron fences together early factories producing everything from plows to tractors soon became staples across both Jackson & Marshall Counties . As time went on people turned their attention towards expanding into other industries such as banking & insurance which led directly to Artis Shaw Cotton Mills being founded herein1902 followed by Beecham Paper Mills then Piggly Wiggly Supermarkets before finally Hormel Foods Inc becoming an anchor tenant herein1984 bringing many jobs & families right up close local politicians such as Mayor John A Sprague were also born here including future US Congressman Pete Sessions

Canton is located in the eastern part of Mississippi, and it has been a town for over 100 years. The first settlers in what would now be Canton were farmers who arrived in 1821. At that time, the area was still part of Alabama and there wasn't much trade between Mississippi and Alabama. In 1827, the Asbury group of settlers moved to Canton from Ohio. They started a grocery store and built a cabin on the banks of theMississippi River. The Asbournes were followed by other families over the next few years and by 1830, Canton had a population of about 30 people. In 1831, General Andrew Jackson became president of the United States and he ordered all Indian nations to stop raids on white settlements. This caused many Native Americans to leave their homes in search of new land. Some of these Indian refugees founded Canton as an agricultural community with crops such as cotton, corn, wheat, hay, potatoes, applesauce and pumpkins being produced. The first post office was opened in Canton in 1832. It served as a depot for wagon trains carrying goods across the river to Mobile Bayou where they could be unloaded and sold before being transported back across the bayou to Mobile for delivery elsewhere in Alabama or Georgia. The first teacher hired at Canton Elementary School was Mrs. Fenton in 1902! The town enjoyed some prosperity during World War II because many companies established warehouses here for storing supplies during wartime times! After the war ended, most businesses closed down but some continued operations until around 1970 when they finally went out of business! Today, there are just a few small businesses remaining that serve primarily local residents!
Canton was founded in 1812 by General James K. Polk and his men during the Seminole Wars. The town was named for Captain George Canton, an American Revolutionary War veteran who had fought with British forces in Florida. In 1836, the name of the town was changed to Jackson after Andrew Jackson became president of the United States. The city of Jackson gained municipal status in 1868.
