It is the county seat of Marshall County and the largest city in Marshall County. Canton was founded in 1836 as a small community on the banks of the Pearl River. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Pearl River floodplain and its access to water resources. In 1850, Canton became an important railroad center after construction began on the Gulf Railroad across from present-day Canton Airport. By 1870, Canton had become one of the most prosperous cities in Mississippi due to its status as a rail junction and its position near major highways. During Reconstruction following America's civil war, Canton experienced rapid growth as cotton plantations were abandoned and new businesses were established in trade with post-war reconstruction efforts throughout Mississippi. However, during this time period economic stability began to unravel and social tensions mounted as residents struggled with rising living costs caused by increased industrial production and military engagements during Reconstruction. By 1875, tension had reached such levels that a group of businessmen organized themselves into a local militia known as "The Tigers" to resist government control over their lives. This event led to what is now known as "The Riot of 1875". Despite this opposition from some residents, overall business conditions continued to improve during ensuing decades until events such as World War II interrupted these trends. Afterward, persistent unemployment & poverty led to another period of stagnation until recent years have seen significant progress made through public investment & entrepreneurship

These pistols used a simple system where each finger had its ownTrigger guard which was attached to the barrel at an angle so that when both hands were used together, it would release the hammer from the cocked position (This system was later replaced by cocking mechanisms). Pistol use increased until 1802 when Nicolas-Jacques Conte patented his design for a pistol using a double action trigger system which required both hands to fire simultaneously (This system became known as “Double action revolvers”). Thissystem allowed for more rapid loading and firing of shots because it allowed for less guesswork when manipulating ammunition magazine pouches into position. In 1868 John Browning designed his first revolver using this system which became known as The Browning Automatic Rifle. In 1902, Redding patented his version of a double action trigger called The Redding Dickietrigger which could be operated with one or two hands depending on how you held your grip (Most handguns still use this type of Trigger today). In 1911 John Browning designed an automatic shotgun named “Browning Automatic Shotgun” which fired automatically whenever you squeezed off three rounds from a magazine located on either side of the receiver (This system is now known as pump shotguns). However, most handguns still use manual safeties to prevent accidental fires due to mishandling or incorrect installation/use thereof; however, some handguns still allow automatic fire without safety devices such as semi auto rifles and shotguns utilizing gas operated systems

Canton is a city in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The history of Canton dates back to 1837 when three men – J.B. Hilliard, Wm. Aiken and Fayette Dixon – founded the town on land they acquired from the Alabama Railroad Company. In 1851, Canton became an incorporated municipality with a population of 3,000 residents. The first post office was established in Canton in 1852 and remained in operation until 1890. In 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg arrived in Mississippi to lead his army into battle against Union General Ulysses S. Grant's forces near Meridian Heights outside Mobile Bayou and decided to cross over the bayou for supplies and reinforcements; he ordered Captain John Moultrie of the 1st Mississippi Infantry Regiment to lead a detachment of 10 men across which would travel by boat across Bayou Teche (now called Jordan River) on horseback but were met by Federal troops who boarded the boat and shot them all before it reached safety ashore; this event is now known as the Battle of Bridgeport Landing In 1865, Canton was burned by Union forces during an effort to destroy ammunition caches being built by Confederate General Robert Ewell around Corinth AL These caches had been so successful that Ewell thought he could never be stopped; however, Confederate General Pemberton destroyed most of these caches prior to their discovery and thus ended any hopes of another Confederate victory at Corinth Later that year Canton voted not to secede from Mississippi following Abraham Lincoln's January 12th Address which called for all southern states except Georgia to secede within 24 hours or face war In 1870, after years of lobbying by Mayor James Vaird and others within the community there was finally construction begun on what would become one of America's largest cotton plantations - "Mississippi Valley Cotton Factory" located just east off State Highway 49 between Meridian Road (now Wilkinson Boulevard) and Clinton Street; this plantation would continue producing cotton until it closed its doors in 1984 As one result of World War II production increased greatly due largely to two factors: demand from Japan for military-grade munitions needed for their war efforts as well as American support given through Project Grendel which helped build up Iraq's military capability After World War II there also began a large influx of black people into rural areas such as Canton during what has come euphemistically known as "The Great Migration"; many found work on newly constructed white farms while others took jobs available in nearby Jackson or Starkville
Canton was founded on August 14, 1803, by James Wilkinson and others. The town was named for General Anthony Wayne, who fought in the American Revolution. It grew up around the cotton plantations of the Wilkinson family. In 1825, a school and courthouse were built in Canton. The town became a railroad center, with several yards being built in the early 19th century. The first train to come through Canton arrived on December 6, 1856.
