So they began buying Lock Pads (made outof wood) so they could keep their weapons locked up when not useable! Unfortunately for these folks….the Japanese came through and invaded early in 1945!! As soon as they got their hands on thoseLock Pads…..they started using them like KEYBOARDS!!! Now we know why our old shotgun stocks look so strange……….those ancient Lock Pads weren’t enough security against those mean Japs!

Canton, Mississippi is a town in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1894 by white settlers and named for Canton, Ohio. It was established as a cotton trading post on the Yazoo River. In 1902 it became the county seat of Marshall County and remained so until it was moved to Jackson in 1958. The first settler in what is now Canton was Simeon Harmon who arrived there in 1894. Harmon's family operated a cotton gin and distillery near Canton until 1901 when they sold all their assets and relocated to Meridian. There they built a larger house on land that still stands today as the Harmon House Museum. In 1902, Canton became the county seat of Marshall County after being placed within Jackson Township according to an act of the legislature passed that year. At this time, white residents constituted only about 20% of the township's total population; most of its inhabitants were African American slaves who lived on nearby plantations or worked for their masters locally or exported cotton from slave-produced fields into Jackson Township for transportation back home across state lines to be sold again into slavery. The area today known as Canton has been inhabited since prehistory by Native Americans who hunted game and gathered plants and flowers along the river banks where he now stands. By 1800 several small villages had developed around major water routes through central Mississippi including Groveland Junction on the Illinois River just upstream from Stroudsburg (now Westville), Tupelo Junction on Choctawhatchee Lake downstream from Montgomery (now Natchez), New Orleans Landing on Bayou Teche south of Monroe (now Jackson) and Sparta Landing located near present day Starkville off I-5 just east of Woodruff (later Opelousas). By 1830 these villages had long disappeared as new settlements were founded along riverside branches created during periods of rapid growth such as during Reconstruction when freedmen began returning to their former homes following various types of emancipation including land grants, military service or free labor contracts with local farmers willing to reopen agricultural operations not disturbed by previous slaveowners' activities There are numerous old maps available which show these early location changes due primarily to river flooding which destroyed many homes and increased demand for goods brought downriver by steamboats visitingJacksonportand Port Hudson . Most maps also document Indian Wars fought between 1796-1812 which resulted in Tensas & Choctaw Nation ceded over 1 million acres including all or portions of modern Marshall County In 1892 Methodist Episcopal Church built a large frame church dedicated to God "in honor" of John Wesley Hogg who had given $10 towards its construction which would become one of largest churches ever built in Mississippi . This church served as both courthouse/ jail facilities until 1907 when another large frame building replaced it next door becoming known as State Capitol before finally being demolished in 1975 entirely leaving only memory behind According A History Of TheMississippi Delta Vol 6 pgs 97-100 When pressed later during World War II why no armament production expansion plans were put into effect like those proposed ahead OF Pearl Harbor , Chief War Industries Board Director George Wallace stated "I cannot remember exactly what we said but we didn't say anything specific about war munitions." Robert J McNamara later admitted "We did not have any weapons plants set up at that time". This lackadaisical attitude likely stemmed from President Franklin D Roosevelt's belief that if America could build them then other countries would too leading him instead towards developing strategic bombers
Canton is located in the eastern part of Mississippi. The town was founded in 1836 by Captain John Canton and his wife, Jane. The first white settlers were Major John & Mrs. Canton, who came from Kentucky in 1837. In 1840, the Cantons donated land to the town for a cemetery. In 1860, the cotton-growing area of southeastern Mississippi was devastated by a severe tornado that swept through the area. Many homes and businesses were destroyed, as well as many trees and branches. Some people attribute this event to an angel or Godfrey Byrd, who had been visiting the area frequently at that time. However, after the end of Reconstruction mainland Jackson County became more populous and black residents began moving into what had been predominantly white towns and villages throughout southern Mississippi beginning in the late 19th century, including Canton. By 1920, only about 10% of Canton's citizens were black; most of its inhabitants still spoke English as their first language.) Many African Americans worked on plantations until they were called off for military service during World War II; then they returned to work on their own farms or cities until integration began in 1965 with passage of Civil Rights Act Amendments which banned discrimination against blacks by employers and public authorities
