Woodbury is a small town in Minnesota, located on the border of the state of Iowa and the United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It lies within Grand Forks County. The first settler in what is now Woodbury was John Middleton, who landed there in 1858. The first store was built in 1860 by Samuel Sorenson, and a post office was established in 1865. By 1870, there were over fifty people living in Woodbury. In 1872, James Ewing started a grocery store and restaurant here which became known as the "Ewing's". In 1886, lumber baron Andrew Carnegie donated land to build a mill here which began production in 1889. In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Woodbury for two days and praised its community spirit during his campaign for reelection that year. In 1916, local farmer Haddon Morrill founded the Morrill Dairy Center with milk from his farmsteads near Minden and Maple Lake on Highway 8 about four miles east of town center. In 1954, A&P supermarket opened up shop here; it would later become one of the largest stores in town (in terms of square footage) until it closed down in 2003. Many of today's businesses started out here - among them Rheem water heaters (1948), First National Bank (1960), Gopher Tire & Rubber Company (1963), Weaver World Wide TV antennas (1970-1974), ABC Television Studios (1976-1978), and Northern Lights Casino Resort & Spa (2002). As an agricultural community dating back to pioneer times it has always been important to have access to good soil moisture resources so farmers could grow crops such as corn, wheat or soybeans while keeping their animals fed; this has included ditches that irrigate fields today as well as laddered hayricks used for storage since pre- Impala days when bale roofs were common practice across much of North America including Woodbury! Today’s Main Street we see many businesses that either grew up around agriculture or are still active because they can draw customers from all over!
