Woodbury is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. The community of Woodbury was founded in 1879 by John Wesley Woodbury and his wife, Rebecca. It is located in the northeast corner of Ramsey County on the east side of the Mississippi River. The name "Woodbury" comes from two early settlers: John Wesley Woodbury and his wife Rebecca (1810-1884). In 1879, when John Wesley's brother-in-law J.D. Sutherland settled there with his family, he gave them all one vote in order to choose their new post office name. That year they chose "Woodbury", after a nearby river that they had seen while exploring near their farmstead on the edge of town. John Wesley continued to live here until his death in 1899; then Rebecca moved to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania with her three children and took up real estate business there before dying in 1904. Her husband's remains were interred here until 1907 when they were transferred to Bethlehem Cemetery in Minneapolis because it was cheaper than traveling back and forth between Minneapolis and Stroudsburg every week for services at their father's grave! In 1971, when Ramsey County became landlocked due to construction on I-35W near Hastings Street/Lake Street – one of the longest Interstate highways ever built – residents voted to annex part of neighbouring Maplewood into Woodbury so that everyone would have an equal say about government decisions affecting our townsfolk! As time passed and more people began moving into neighboring towns like Maplewood (population 5%+), we quickly realized that being “annexed” didn’t quite do it justice – we wanted MORE COMMUNITY SERVICE FROM OUR GOVERNMENT! We lobbied hard for an expansive public right-of-way through our neighbourhoods instead which led us to current day where we sit! Now that we are enjoying some great years of growth & progress (thanks again to good parenting!), thanks also go out to our Mayor Rich Hegarty who has done such a fantastic job leading this municipality during these tough times! Woodbury is a small town in Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Statistical Area. Woodbury is located on the east side of the Saint Louis River and across from Duluth. The community was founded in 1881 as a Methodist Episcopal church town, named for Reverend John Woodbury of nearby Springdale. The first post office opened in 1882, and Old Academy House (now the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf restaurant) became our first store when it opened in 1886. The original name for Woodbury was "Fort Snelling". In 1888, local businessmen pooled their money to build a sawmill at what is now known as Mill Creek Road and established Fort Snelling Post Office there. A year later, they built a school which served grades one through twelve until 1912 when it closed due to budget cuts by public officials. In 1916, Fort SnellingPost Office reopened as the new "Woodbury" Post Office after being renamed by then-Governor Jesse Ventura following an effort by lumber barons to end forest fires near their mills in that area caused by sparks from logging operations. The community has experienced many changes over its history - from being a mill town with modest housing stock to becoming an agricultural center during World War II with large production facilities for munitions manufacturing; and finally emerging as an vibrant downtown core during the late 1990s when new businesses began moving into the aging post office building on Main Street just south of Interstate 35E
Woodbury was founded in 1853 by a group of Finnish immigrants. The town grew quickly and by 1875, it had a population of over 100 people. In the early 1900s, Woodbury became an important stop on the “ Minnesota Railroad”. The railroad helped to spur growth in the town and its economy. By 1910, Woodbury had developed into a major city with a population of over 2,000 people.
