The post office located here until 1907; however, mail delivery stopped arriving here until 1915 due to railroad construction nearby which interrupted service several times a day during those years In 1902, local farmers formed what became known as the "Willmar Agricultural Society" to promote agriculture among their community members through education and marketing programs targeted at smallholders and hobbyists In 1914, when World War I began with Austria-Hungary entering into war against Serbia via Hungary, Willmar quickly became one of many communities across the Midwest activated to provide food for troops When rail transportation resumed in 1918 following World War I and new technology arrived such as air travel - including refrigeration - grocery stores quickly opened up throughout America's cities looking to cash in on this newfangled medium By 1930, Willmar's population had swollen to over 4500 due largely to migration from southern Minnesota into what was then rural Hennepin County On July 15th of that year - just four days after America entered World War II - violence erupted near downtown Willmar when an estimated 10% of its residents joined forces with other patriotic Minnesotans fighting for their country Dickinson High School closed its doors for lack of students during the war while other Twin Cities schools remained open; however, this only lasted until September 1944 when orders came from home commanding all materials be destroyed in case they were used as tools against Allied troops . Afterward much like everywhere else across America where similar decisions were made about how wartime materials would be used - including some examples where entire villages were razed without cause or proper assessment - many people continued working during peacetime using whatever resources they could find . During these years there wasn't even a store open anymore let alone an agricultural society so things must have been tough back then
