When White Bear Lake was founded in 1855, it was a small town of about 100 people. The area that now makes up the town of White Bear Lake was first populated by the Koyukon tribe. The first European to set foot on what is now White Bear Lake was French Canadian Captain André Le Sueur, who explored and surveyed the area in 1793. In 1855, Dutchman Willem de Valk settled in what is now WhiteBearLake and began trading with the natives. In 1865, Black Hawk War veteran General George Armstrong Custer helped found the city of Chicago and purchased land in what is now WhiteBearLake. He used his influence to get white settlers to move into the area and start building homes. Eventually,WhiteBearLake became a popular tourist destination for Northern Europeans. Today, White Bear Lake has a population of over 1900 people and is one of Minnesota's most popular tourist destinations. The town offers a variety of attractions including an interesting history museum, golf courses, shopping centers, restaurants, and hotels.

White Bear Lake is a small, privately owned, undeveloped reservoir located in the extreme southwest corner of Ramsey County, Minnesota. The lake was formed by damming an unnamed stream that flows into the White River. The dam was built by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Railroad Company and is now owned and operated by the Minneapolis-st.paul water authority. The early pioneers who populated this area were Norwegian immigrants who arrived in 1854. They first hunted game in what is now White Bear Lake, then constructed a log cabin for themselves on one of the islands in the lake. In 1875, three settlers named Jonas Olson, Rasmus Olsen, and Ole August Carlson founded what would become known as Johnson City on Beaver Island opposite White Bear Lake. They store goods there until 1886 when they move to their present site and establish a home that would remain in use until 1908 when it burned down due to a lightning strike. In 1907, white bear hunting became legal statewide in Minnesota and White Bear Lake became one of fourteen lakes listed as part of the state's Wildlife Management Areas program. The deer hunting season began on October 1st and lasted through November 25th; carp fishing took place from April 1-October 15th each year with a catch limit of two per day; shotgun hunting started on May 1st (the opening day of duck season)and continued through September 15th; black bear hunting was allowed from December 1st through January 7th only with no bag or possession limits set; Muskie fishing opened February 6th but closed March 5th because ice made it difficult to get Difficulty III gear out onto the lake ; anglers could bring either catfish or sunfish up to twelve inches long without limitation while largemouth bass had a five pound limit per day while crappie had a ten dollar limit per day.; walleye had a five hundred fifty dollar daily limit while bluegill had an unlimited five hundred thirty dollars Limit . . . during these seasons all other game species were open except for Muskie which were only available during specific trapping seasons The first house on Johnson City Island was built about 1886 by Rasmus Olsen Sr., son of Jonas Olson (founder). After several years at Johnson City Island, Rasmus Olsen Jr., moved his family across river to Beaver Island which he also built about 1888 although it does not appear he ever lived there permanently. At least one other family occupied Beaver Island before it burned down around 1908 according to some sources however most likely it burnt down due to guests staying there too late for departure or because someone accidentally lit something else on fire! It’s interesting that this particular island doesn’t appear any longer extant despite being documented back into at least 1916! No records exist showing how many people lived at Beaver Island prior to its burning but according to some sources “It probably housed between 10 and 12 people... most likely more because boats usedto take passengers ferris wheel access acrossriver” One possible explanation why this particular island didn't burn down may be related to its location right next door ToJohnsonCityIsland - another log cabin also standing today which may have been used as storage or extra living space for those living on Beaver Island after Johnson City burned down! Additionally both islands are quite close together making it very easy for fire crews/volunteers/etc if they wanted access acrossriver! This isn't even remotely unusual happening here since we see similar situations all over Ramsey County – sometimes things just don't go away quickly enough!! Aftermath: After Johnson City burned down there developed what is considered today's version of "Johnson City" consisting mostly of logs still standing today along with some houses foundations still visible today including one currently inhabited by descendants of Rasmus Olsen Jr.. Unfortunately due largely agains weather conditionsoguely changing conditions over time almost every single piece(except foundation)of original Rasmussen Olsen Jr.'s house eventually went up in flames multiple times resulting in significant damage including $2700 worth OF LAND !! ! A few contributing factors include windy conditions & subsequent fires starting near ground level & leaping high into surrounding trees leaving embers lingering where wood once stood !! Of course fortunately everyone involved survived somehow !! TOTAL LOSS FROM FIRE : $2700
