Gun Targets in West St. Paul, Minnesota began as a way for men to target each other with firearms during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The first Targets were located on the east side of town near the post office. Today, there are over 20 Targets located in and around West St. Paul, many of which are open to the public. The history of gun targets in West St. Paul goes back to 1875 when Drilling Company owner Captain James Weir hired proprietor John Sappington to build him a set of six guns specific to shooting at targets outdoors. Over time, other businesses joined Captain Weir in owning and operating Target Arms Manufacturing company which producedTarget pistols (1893), shotguns (1910), rifles (1912) and handguns (1915). During World War I, Target Arms Manufacturing was contracted by the United States government to produce 150 sets of aluminum rifle targets for use at military training camps across America. The targets were used for training soldiers how to shoot accurately from a distance using an artillery piece like a cannon or rifleman’s musket. After the war, Target Arms Manufacturing continued operations as a civilian target manufacturer until 1924 when it merged with Hennepin Arsenal Company Limited & Co., Ltd., becoming one of only two arsenals within Minneapolis that still manufactured alloysurgical munitions products after World War II (the other being Minnehaha Arsenal). In 1951, Target Arms Manufacturing became part of American Armory Corporation and later renamed National Armaments Corporation before ceasing production altogether in 1966 due largely to political reasons surrounding Gun Control legislation then being implemented in America at that time (i.e., The Brady Bill). West St. Paul, Minnesota is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Ramsey County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 613,829. The city is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 25 miles (40 km) north of Minneapolis and 30 miles (48 km) south of St. Paul. The first people to inhabit what is now West St.Paul were Athabascans who came there in search of game during the Ice Age. The town was founded by European fur traders in 1824 as part of a land grant from President James K. Polk to Major General David Johnson for his exploration into what are now eastern Minnesota and Wisconsin Territory which had been won at Battle Creek in 1812 and thenMinnesota Territory after being admitted as a state in 1837. In 1851, Johnson sold out his portion of the land grant to Simon Cameron who named it Cameron Heights after himself; this name lasted until 1907 when it was changed back to West St.Paul for historical reasons only). In 1870, prior to becoming an incorporated city, West St. Paul participated in a mutual assistance agreement with Minneapolis so that if either city were attacked or destroyed by another community within twenty-four hours, both would be assisted financially by each other without any reimbursement from either party’s government treasury! This pact helped solidify WestStPaul’s position as an important commercial center between Minneapolis and Saint Paul due to its location on two major river crossings – one on the Mississippi River and one across Prairie du Chien Road Bridge over Superior Creek (the “Bridge Over No Name”). During World War II much effort went into helping American war efforts with materials such as arms and munitions production plants; these plants are still extant today but have been converted into apartments or office buildingsanda variety called “Village Halls” throughout downtownWestStPaul vacant lots have become known as “Arsenal Row” because they once housed Arsenal Technical College which operated from 1914-1967; however many schools have moved away since then making this area almost completely industrialized! After having served as both an agricultural center for farmers westcentral Minnesota until around 1920 when resources began dwindling due to changes wrought by new technologies like tractors and irrigation systems brought about by advances in agriculture technology developed outside North America during that time period Midwest farmers turned their attention eastward where feedlots became common among dairy farmers early 20th century resultant in those farms being surrounded on all sides by urban areas along rivers like Duluth Red Line Railroad tracks Today we can see some remnants remaining from those days including: concrete foundations still standing at old factory sites where pulp mills used to operate years ago now home to apartments
