Waconia, Minnesota is a small town located in the state of Minnesota. The population was 5,062 at the 2010 census. The name Waconia comes from the Ojibwe language and means "place where Sioux once lived." The first settlers in what is now Waconia were farmers who came to the area around 1858. At that time, there were only a few miles of land in what is now Waconia. By 1865, three stores and ten homes had been built in what is now Waconia. In 1869, a school was erected on the site of present-day First United Methodist Church. In 1870, two brothers named Jens and Ole Schafer started a grocery store in what is now downtown Waconia. They soon became known as one of the most successful businesses in town. One of their many products was ice cream which they sold out of wagons during summertimeadeses (a popular prairie festival). In 1876, they founded the paper mill which continues to be operational today. In 1907, Smedley Ladd purchased farmland north of downtown Waconia for $3500 dollars ($787 per acre at current prices). This land would later become home to Memorial Stadium and also serve as the site for many other major civic projects such as creating electricity from wood chips collected from lumberyards nearby. In 1970, when Minneapolis-St Paul County acquired all but 10 acres of rural farmland east of downtown Minneapolis for use as Merrimack Valley Airport property (now Midway Airport), part of that land included some valuable farmsteads within minutes' walk or bike ride of both city center and campus areas; these lands became home to much development over ensuing years including Pioneer Mall (later Macy's) directly across Hennepin Avenue from Memorial Stadium; this shopping mall remains an anchor tenant today along with KFC/Etihad Airways Center onRNA Road adjacent to Target Field sporting events; likewise several large office buildings have been built on properties adjoining Pioneer Mall since its inception including Wells Fargo Bank Headquarters completed in 1984 adjacent to Sears Tower which served until 2005 when that building moved into an entirely new building next door atrium[K] consecutive gas stations - either Genesis Energy or XpressGas - became fixtures along Hennipin Avenue between Apartment Buildings No 1 & 2 Streets Northeast; Stinson Place anchored by Sam's Club Warehouse opened adjacent to Target Field following construction[L] almost every block contains numerous independently owned restaurants catering primarily to college students living near campus serving slim diets without fries or Coke!
