Waconia is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Dakota Sioux word wacana meaning "the great buffalo hunt." The first settler in Waconia was Nicholas Morrill and his wife MarthaIE on February 22, 1849. They arrived with their four children and began farming land that they purchased from the Winnebago Tribe. In 1871, they erected a log courthouse which still stands today. For many years the Morrill family operated a general store and bakery on Main Street. A post office was established in Waconia on December 12, 1903. In 1907 George Armstrong Custer’s grave was unveiled in Waconia by President Theodore Roosevelt and General William Tecumseh Sherman during a visit to Ramsey County for the dedication of new military roads near Nicollet Barracks. The main thoroughfare through town now bears his name: Armstrong Avenue (named for him). A post office called “Custer Post” opened in 1898 but closed its doors after just one year due to low mail volume. By 1920 nearly all of what is now Ramsey County had been organized as an incorporated municipality; Waconia remained unincorporated because it didn't meet jurisdictional requirements for incorporation. On July 1, 1925, the Town of Waconia became part of the new Ramsey County when it merged with neighboring towns of Brooklyn Park and South Minneapolis to form what is now known as Ramsey County Municipality #1 (RMC#1). At its creation RCM#1 consisted of 2 sections – section one consisting of rural areas east of US-2 (now I-394), including most of present-day Woodbury Heights; while section two included most of present day Maplewood and several other neighborhoods withinpresent-day Forest Park boundaries (today's Maplewood neighborhood lies entirely within section two boundary). As part as RCM#1's creation there were also significant changes taking place withinWaconia itself: firstly construction began on what would later become State Highway 6; secondly fire destroyed much Of central business district before being put out by community members themselves using buckets filled with water from ditch adjacent to church - effectively likening this event to modern day cell phone video footage where individuals take quick videos/photos without worrying about causing or risking damage vernacular has since changed such that fires are taken more seriously both inside & outside businesses

Waconia is a town in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 705 at the 2010 census. Waconia is located on the southern edge of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. It is bordered by Marshalltown to the south, Mankato to the north, and Hibbing to the east. The first white settlers in what is now Dakota County were fur traders who came from Nome. They built trading posts along the Red River in 1851-52 and named their settlement after Wacoonie in Canada, where they had been living for some time. By 1869, all but a few of these traders had died or moved on; however, a group of men led by John Armstrong Settlers continued traveling westward overland until they reached what is now Dakota County on January 28, 1870. They named their new county after Armstrong's old home village of Wacoonie (now Aberdeen). Armstrong's father-in-law also founded a Post Office there in 1870 and it remains open today as Waconia post office. In 1871, Hanson Lumber Company began logging in what are now parts of Waconia and Marshalltown; this began what would become one ofMinnesota's most significant industries. The lumber industry declined during World War II but has revived since then due to development around its mills sites and other resources such as coal mining and shale gas discoveries near Waconia. In addition to its role as an important economic center for southwestern Minnesota during this time period,Waconia also played host to numerous events that helped promote peace and reconciliation between Native American nations throughout North America including talks between Ulysses S Grant and Sitting Bull at Butte Creek National Monument in 1902; establishment of Treaty 3 at Crazy Horse Battlefield nearpresent- day Hibbing; negotiation/signing of Treaty 5 with Great Sioux Nation near present day Apple Valley on October 12th 1906 which ended years of warfare; signing of Executive Order 8802 creating Indian Education Service;; establishmentof White Earth Indian Nation School District No 1.; erectionofState Capitol building;} During World War II many residents served within local military units including those who fought overseas with distinction such as First Lieutenant Harry Dillingham whoreceivedthe Medal Of Honor for his participation in Operation Neptune's Spear); Sergeant James Jarrell who receivedthe Purple Heart for wounds he sustained while leading Company K1 Marines against enemy forcesnear Chalupka Alaska); Warrant Officer Second Class Charles Fentonwho receivedthe Silver Star for heroism while serving with Battery A2 9th Infantry Regimentin Europe)
