On that date, Colt Industries became a subsidiary of Ruger firearms corporation.
Vadnais Heights is a small city in east-central Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,804 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The name "Vadnais Heights" comes from Vadnais Lake, which lies within the city limits and forms part of its water supply system. The present town was established in 1892 when farmers added to their holdings what were then rural land north of Vadnais Lake. In 1906, the city annexed most of Hennepin County to become one unit with Vadnais Heights as its seat and largest employer until it left Minnesota in 1959. Vadnais Heights, Minnesota is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. Vadnais Heights was founded in 1881 by Danish immigrants who named it for Count Johann Adolf Vadnain von Heidegger. It was incorporated as a city in 1912. The current mayor is Erik Dahlquist. The town of Vadnais Heights lies on the east side of the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St. Paul, about south of the downtown area and west of Maplewood and Edina. It straddles what used to be the eastern border of Ramsey County until it was annexed by Minneapolis in 1955. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1]of 2000, there were 618 people, 183 households, and 146 families residing in the town. The population density was 71 people per square mile (29/km²). There were 215 housing units at an average density of 31 per square mile (13/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99% White and 1% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 2% of the population. There were 183 households out of which 36% had children underthe ageof eighteen living with them, 53% had married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29% were non-families. 24
The Vadnais Heights area of Minneapolis was first settled in 1847 by Danish immigrants. The community was founded on the east side of the Mississippi River, near present day University Avenue and First Street. The name "Vadnais Heights" is derived from a location in the nearby town of Vadnais, Minnesota. In 1881, J.P. Morgan and Company built their headquarters at 5th and Nicollet Streets in what is now downtown Minneapolis. They were followed by other large businesses including Wernher Hogg & Co., Sons Ltd., National Cash Register Company and Northern Pacific Railroad Co.. The community experienced a period of prosperity during World War II when demand for goods created wartime jobs for residents. However, following the war, economic conditions began to decline as suburban development increased on both sides of the river. In the early 21st century, Vadnais Heights has seen a resurgence in population with new housing developments being built along University Avenue and Nicollet Street.
