In 1886, the city of St Paul ceded ownership of its bathhouse to Stillwater for use as a public school building; this event helped spur development around the current downtown area around High School Avenue and South Shaker Boulevard which date back to that time period. In 1907,still Water bought land from Davenport Township for $1 million dollars which became home to modern day mcdonalds restaurant as well as other businesses such as an electrician/repair man shop etc... . In 1889, a general store opened in Stillwater and it became one of the most popular stores in town.
