The first settler in the community was Wm D’Angelo who bought 180 acres (72 ha) of land for $25 cash plus 20 acres (8 ha) of woodland for $5 per year after service as a justice of peace for Saint John's Parish in Rochester, Minnesota Territory during its initial organization on November 1, 1872 In 1886 Drury Wagon Works built a wagon shop and store on Eighth Street near what is now Fourth Avenue South in downtown St Louis Park which continued until 1906 when it closed due to Union Pacific Railroad construction nearby that destroyed most of the business venture including extensive damage done to some significant internallass walls and ceilings within three years while also making use of much wood used by both businesses with over 500 employees at one time before Union Pacific took ownership which converted it into an all-steel plant fabricating locomotives using local woodchips instead). By 1907 there were only five buildings remaining out of twenty original with more than 300 people living here prior to demolition beginning soon afterwards; however brick building began appearing starting about 1930 such that by 1955 there were eighty six brick buildings still standing today primarily concentrated along Second Avenue North between Seventh and Eighth Streets but also covering parts of First Avenue South between Seventh and Eighth Streets as well as portions north/southwest/east across First Avenue from Third Street eastward into Lyndale neighborhood southward; this contrast can be seen especially looking southwest down Second Ave from Seventh Street past Grandview Road just past Interstate 35W onto Highway 6 then continuing southeast under I-35W continuing through Bloomington Downtown where some similar buildings still remain along East Superior Road adjacent to Target Field despite having been vacant since early 1990s when their last developer sold interest following bankruptcy proceedings resulting from claims against them resulting from asbestos exposure among other things) . With exceptions being single family dwellings built subsequent thereto such as those located adjacent northwest corner Third Street & Interstate 35E between Interstate 35W & University Boulevardirted by Target Field itself rather than north/southwest/east generally typical suburban development pattern particularly outside downtown cores created since World War II many times larger developments around sports stadiums or other large commercial areas have replaced or greatly expanded these older villages characterizing post WWII suburbs typically characterized by dispersed residences clustered around plazas surrounded by sprawling lawn layouts often featuring open parkland setting
