The first settlers were two families: Olsen's family and Larsen's family who had also come overland from Norway just months earlier. By 1860 there were ten people living here; all except one father died young while trying to get settled into their new home surrounded by hostile Native American tribes who regularly attacked them during this time period according to local historian Caren Jorgensen." In 1909 Stcloud voted unanimously to become an unincorporated village which later became an incorporated town under mayor Harry Sievers until 1955 when it became an additional suburb within metropolitan Minneapolis following annexation by that city."
