Bullets in South St. Paul date back to 1885 when a company named The Armoury Trust purchased a revolver from Samuel Colt. The trust was formed to help keep the community safe by purchasing firearms and ammunition. Firearms purchases were restricted to citizens of the city, and ammo purchasers had to be at the Armoury on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In 1912, South St. Paul became an incorporated city, and it became illegal for civilians to purchase guns or ammo without a permit from the police department. This prohibition led to increased crime in the city, and it was not until 1934 thatSouth St. Paul passed an ordinance allowing individuals over 21 years old to buy pistols and revolvers without a permit. Since then, pistol ownership has been unrestricted in South St.Paul! In 1976,ballistics researchers discovered that bullets created by American Manufacturing Company (AMC) were used in both World War I and World War II in Canada but they were not known to have been used as projectiles in Minnesota until 1945 when bullet fragments found at Fort Snelling revealed this fact

The name "South" came about because so many farms lay east of Saint Anthony Falls—southwest of today's downtown—that landowners decided to name their new townships after geographical features near where they lived: Seward Township was named for Admiral George Hull, north-northwest of town; Wingate Township was named for Colonel Samuel Wingate, northeast of town; Stillwater Township was named for Captain John Stillwater (1799-1870), commander at Fort Snelling during the War on the Prairie (1855-56) In 1836 Jesse James spent two weeks jailing here while awaiting trial on charges that included robbery and cattle rustling across state lines.
