Shoreview is a small town in western Minnesota, United States. It lies on the shore of Lake Superior, about 20 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The community was first settled in the 1800s and its name derives from "shore view" – a term meaning an excellent view of the water from a location near the shore. In 1884, a group of men led by Capt. John P. Chieftain purchased the land that would become Shoreview from the Minnesota Territorial government. The town was founded on July 1, 1885 and named for nearby Hennepin County. In 1912, Shoreview adopted a city charter and within two years had a population of approximately 100 people. The town experienced economic growth in the 1920s and 1930s with its manufacture of munitions, lumber, automobiles and other products. Many businesses were closed during World War II as production shifted to war-time economies elsewhere. In 1951, Shoreview became an incorporated city under state law. Shoreview's economy has fluctuated over the years with periods of prosperity followed by periods of decline; however, it has remained largely stable since the late 1990s when it received $2 million in funding through the Minnesota Economic Development Authority to improve local infrastructure and increase job opportunities for residents.

But by 1968 it had increased to 3,500 residents and became one of the fastest-growing villages in Minnesota. In 1984, Shoreview voters passed an ordinance authorizing development of an artificial shoreline along the river for public use and recreation purposes only; this led to what is now known as "Shorewood Harbor." Today Shoreview is home to many businesses, including three banks and two shopping malls; its schools are also among the most successful inMinnesota with high academic success rates for both students and staff. Shoreview is a small town located in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. Shoreview is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first post office in Shoreview was established on February 12, 1857, and closed on July 15, 1865. The first settler in Shoreview was Levi Hanson who bought land from the state of Minnesota in 1859. In 1860, he married Anna Grosse and they moved to what is now the town site. In 1868 it was reported that a sawmill had been built by John Witherspoon near present day Interstate 94 and Ulysses Road. It appears that this mill never came into use because no logs were ever cut from it; however there are references to another sawmill being built around this time near Moorhead by George Hennepin but no evidence has been found to confirm this claim. In 1870 Jacob Fry set up a bakery which remain as one of the most important businesses in Shoreview until about 1978 when it went out of business due to competition from neighbouring towns like Bloomington and Hopkinsdale along with new technologies such as microwaves making bread possible at home without buying any ingredients or going through an oven/griddle/smoker etc.. In 1978 JB’s Bakery reopened under new ownership with fresh baked goods made fresh daily right outside your front door! That same year also saw the opening of Shorewood Elementary School which became one of MN’s longest continuously operating public schools! In 2002, after years of planning by community members including then-Mayor Dave Hughes and Mayor Norm Coleman (then Chief Deputy), shoreline mall announced plans for a major redevelopment project called "Lakeshore". This project would include the construction of more than 100 large retail buildings totaling over 1 million square feet across five blocks within walking distance of downtown Minneapolis utilizing prime waterfront land next to Lake Minnetonka for outdoor shopping and dining experiences along with new public transportation options including light rail transit service between downtown Minneapolis and Lakeshore Park
Shoreview was once a thriving community with a population of over 1,500 people. However, the community's decline began in the early 2000s when large-scale manufacturing shut down in the area. The decline has been further exacerbated byhigh caseloads and low wages at local companies. In addition, there is little job growth or development available in the area amid increased competition from other metropolitan areas. As a result, many residents are forced to move to other parts of the state or out of Minnesota altogether.
