The Shoreview community had its first optical shop in 1916. In 1946, the first optical store in the area was opened by Dr. Julius Kapp and his wife Florence. At that time, the town was located on the west side of Minneapolis and only had a few stores. The family operated their business until 1975 when they sold it to Dr. Harry Levin who reopened the store as Levin's Optical Center. In 1984, Levin's Optical Center became Shoreview Mall and continued to serve as its primary retail outlet until 1998 when it closed its doors for good.

The name "ShoreVIEW" was chosen to represent both the location of the town on Lake Minnetonka and its openness to newcomers who would want to make their home here: "shore view," meaning level ground from which one can see all around; "VIEW," emphasizing that this should be an open environment for all residents so that everyone could share in what Shoreview had to offer - good schools, miles of bike trails, water resources for fishing and boating, businesses for shopping and services for those who needed them most - something that has continued through today's times (although some areas have lost some of these amenities). Today's Shoreview is still founded upon traditional values such as hard work ethic, honesty/integrity & respect for others; these are importantvalues that have been passed down from generation to generation since early morning coffee conversations started right outside our homes over cups of hot oatmeal or toast with jam were shared before getting ready each day to start their lives

In 1925, when Iron County was created from parts of Ramsey County, Shoreline became one of its first towns within the new county boundaries. In 1932, Union Pacific Railroad began serving as the town's primary transportation provider with service to Mooresville and other surrounding communities along their line
