Shoreview is a small town in southern Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,854 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Shoreview first became a village in 1892 and then a city in 1912. On July 1, 2007, it merged with neighboring Bloomington to form the larger city of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Shoreview's history can be traced back to 1892 when a group of settlers founded the community on an island in Lake Minnetonka near where present day Brooklyn Park is located. In 1912, Shoreview became a city after it was annexed by Minneapolis from Bloomington.[1] The annexation led to some changes for Shoreview as it gained more land and density; for example, most of its streets were named after members of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul city council or other municipal officials (e.g., John Ahern). In 1856, a group of men from Minnesota and Wisconsin founded the town of Shoreview on the east shore of Superior Bay. The town was named after General James K. Polk, who had helped sign the Treaty of Paris ending the American Civil War. The town grew quickly and by 1870 it had a population of 400 people. In 1872, Shoreview became a city and in 1908 it was renamed Minneapolis.
