In 1906, they merged with two other villages to form what is now Shoreline Village. The village grew rapidly due to its close proximity to Minneapolis and its ability to sell its goods directly to customers outside of Minnesota. In 1925, the shoreline park was created when Drury donated land on which he constructed a swimming pool and tennis court. At that time, it was one of only a few municipally owned parks in America. It remained an open space until it was annexed by Minneapolis in 1954 when housing development began around University Avenue east of campus). In 1974, Shoreline Village became part of Minneapolis after it seceded from Minnesota Union County

Shoreview is a city in northwestern Minnesota, United States. The population was 8,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hennepin County. The history of Shoreview goes back to 1856 when it was known as a small fishing village on the upper Mississippi River. In 1892, the town became part of Minneapolis and was renamed after Admiral George Washington Hughes, who had been Commodore of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. In 1916, Shoreview merged with neighboring Hamline to form a new city-county. The original name for Shoreview was "Haley's Point." In 1917, during World War I, Shorewood served as an airfield for fighter planes used by the US military in Europe. After the war ended in 1918, many members of Congress came to town to celebrate American victory over Germany and were met with enthusiasm by local residents who wanted to continue celebrating America's success even while they were living abroad (the events are now known as "Congress Day"). Shorewood also saw use during Prohibition which led to its nickname " prohibition land". In 1955-1957 Norwegian immigrants from Nordland ran a grocery store and restaurant on Second Street in front of Harbor View High School called Fjordskærbuighedsen. This grocery store and restaurant remains open today as Normandie's Gourmet Diner & Publix Supermarket
On the shore of Lake Superior, in what is now Shoreview, Minnesota, a group of farmers founded a town in 1855. At first the town was called Northfield, but it was renamed to Shoreview due to the shortage of land and its location on the river. The town grew rapidly, and by 1860 had 1,200 residents. In 1868 the town became a city, and in 1949 it merged with Minneapolis.
