Shoreview is a town in Rice County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous community within the city of Minneapolis-Saint Paul and it forms part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Shoreview is located on the western shore of Lake Minnetonka and its ZIP Code is 55116. The first settlers in what would become Shoreview were Swedes who arrived in 1854. They built a ferryboat landing on the western shore of Lake Minnetonka for trade with other parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin. In 1857, they started to build a small cabin known as "The Big House" on what is now SW Third Street corner NE First Avenue. By 1860, there were about 50 people living in Shoreview. In 1870, an act was passed by the state legislature to create Rice County which included all of present-day Rice County as well as parts of present-day Dunnville, West Stroudsburg, Nicollet Pass and White Cloud townships (now part of Maple Grove). The land that would become Shoreview was donated by John Wanamaker to be named after him and his family member James Witherspoon Chanter (1819-1892). In 1875–76, George Noyes surveyed land east of Rice Creek for ownership by anyone who could show interest in purchasing it from Canada Land Company heirs apparent Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1932) and his wife Julia Livingston Bell (1849-1929). On June 15th 1880 Mr. & Mrs Noyes conveyed deed #1 containing 236 acres including present day SE Third Street corner NE First Avenue to Geo A Hennepin company—the same company that owned land east of Rice Creek across from where today's SE ThirdStreet corner NE First Avenue stands! This 2 acre parcel became known as "shoreline" property which fronted lakeshore extending 3/4 mile inland from water’s edge This purchase indicates early development OF SHOREVIEW taking place along shoreslines facing water rather than further inland where development took place over time

By 1940, only two stores remain remaining within the town limits; both have been closed down since then. Today, most residents of ShoreVIEW live within or close to their schools or work districts; however there are several businesses still functioning within town limits including: Gulfstream Paper & Board Company (now owned by ThresholdGlobal), Knights Inn Express Hotel/Motel (currently being renovated into new Embassy Suites), harbor freight Terminal II (formerly known as Valley View Marina), FirstEnergy Corp.'s Power Plant No 1 (now used as an event hall), Lighthouse Maritime Museum Shipyard #2 - now known as MN Maritime Museum -and Albright's Drug Store (now Sears). There are also several residences scattered throughout town center along West Seventh Street between Elmwood Avenue and Plymouth Road - one of these has been converted into an apartment building called Harbour Heights apartments!
