This system continued until about 1920 when individual farmers became dominant and began marketing their products themselves instead of pooling resources together again . In 1925, local school Superintendent Jeptha Hennepin recommended that ShakopEE be renamed after General George Meade (1813-1865), an officer who served as commander of American forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). General Meade had been born in Shakopee but died young at age 25 while serving with distinction as commander of Ulysses S Grant's Cavalry Division during the Battle Of Buena Vista Hill outside Mexico City on October 24, 1847 . However none of these proposals led to naming changes until 1932 when General Meade's son Rear Admiral George Washington Meade suggested that his father's name be used for both towns because they were both located near Shaker Heights where he had been born some years earlier.. Finally on October 3, 1933, Shankpee was given its current name - ShakopEE - after General George Meade's namesake locality in Ohio where he had also spent much time during his military service
