During World War II, Savage played an important role in providing food for troops stationed in the area; during that time they also built up a munitions plant which produced ammunition for military conflicts all over the world. After the war ended, many people decided to move away from agriculture due to changes happening throughout society which made farming less profitable than ever before so within 10 years or so there were few if any farms left in town while business activities continued shifting towards new technologies and service sectors coming online during this time period called “The New Millennium”
Savage was founded in 1858 by Andrew W. Savage and his wife, Nancy. The town was named after the nearby Sauk County seat of Savage, Wisconsin. savage found its first post office in 1859. By 1861, the population of the town had reached 100 people and it became a village on July 1, 1861. On July 1, 1871, Savage incorporated as a city with a population of 548 people
