Savage is a small town in the Clearwater County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Duluth-Moline-Chicago metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit the area were French traders and missionaries in 1741. trader François Xavier Bouchard founded a post on what is now Savage Island in 1746. A fur trading post called "Nacogdoches" was also established here in 1824 by James Wickersham, an American fur trader who had traveled through this region before. In 1829, Pierre Dorion founded the city of Duluth here as a port on his new Fur Trading Company ship "Dorion". The company operated until 1855 when it merged into the North American Railway Company. In 1870, Norwegian cattle ranchers arrived in what is today Savage and developed land here for their herds of ruminants. They named their ranch "Savage Ranch" after nearby Isanti Falls which they considered to be their source of water supply and launching point for their operations. By 1901, about 40% of all milk production in Minnesota came from cows raised on these two ranches; however, by 1915 that figure had dropped to 10%. The first store opened in Savage in 1865 by Jens Chappell & Co.; it served as a general mercantile store until 1886 when it became an groceries store under name First National Grocery Co., Inc.. In 1926 First National purchased Second National Bank with headquarters located at 214 Main Street; this left only one grocery store remaining downtown which continued as First National Grocery (now part of Kroger) until 1978 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1957 construction began on what would become riverfront center including a marina and office buildings; this while still remaining inside the city limits boundaries providing services only to residents within those boundaries! This eventually led to incorporation as Savage incorporated as an unincorporated community on December 3rd 1958 with 1,500 residents! On July 15th 1976 voters approved setting up City Hall within City Limits instead of leaving it outdoors where it remained ever since!! On November 7th 1978 Hurricane Agnes made landfall just outside City Limits causing extensive damage along WITH Riverfront Center!!! All business establishments within CITY LIMITS were either destroyed or relocated!!!! Savage lost its only grocery store but regained its civic pride & function thru restoration/rebuilding beginning late fall 2017!!!!!

Savage is a small town in the counties of Morrison and Seward, Minnesota. It was founded in 1868 by Norwegian immigrants, and has its roots in the fur trade. Savage currently has a population of about 120 people. The town is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, about 20 miles north of Minneapolis. The first settler in Savage was Ole Anderson. He arrived there in 1868 from Norway with his family. At first, Anderson set up shop as a trader along the banks of the river. In 1869, he married Margaret Carlson and moved to what is now downtown Savage. They had two children: Ole (1870-1934) and Dora (1872-1960). In 1870, Captain John Ball came toMinnesota from New York City with his wagon train full of traders and settlers looking for land to purchase or settle near the mouth of the Mississippi River. Ball had been sent by President Ulysses S. Grant to look for new territory to explore after Texas had become an American statehood violation on February 2, 1867. Ball saw potential for settlements around what is now Savage because it lay at the confluence of two rivers – one large enough to support a fortification but not so big that it would be difficult for passing travelers across, and another crossing which would make it easy for goods reached downriver from Minneapolis to reach those upriver towns such as Saint Paul and Winnipeg. Ball purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) on both sides of present day US Highway 6 between Savage City Hall and Hastings Dam from Andrew Auldsmeyer for $10 per acre ($2 million today). This land later became known as "Guthrie's Landing." Ball named his place after General James Guthrie who had fought against Mexico during The Mexican War (1846-48). Captain John Ball also donated 20 acres (8 hectares) southeast corner of current day Girdwood Mall near US Highway 6/MN State Road 169A just east of where he grew up for future use as public parkland called "Ball Park." In 1871, Ball opened a store at Guthrie's Landing which became well known among settlers due to its high quality merchandise including rifles, shotguns and pistols bought by farmers going into cultivation along either side of the river below Big Stone Gap Creek on either side of Interstate 5 southbound within minutes' walk away from their homes or access points downstream via private canals leading directly into their farmlands or out through Anoka County’s “Big Stone Gap” country southwestward across Big Stone Gap Creek onto MN State Road 169A/US Highway 23W when they could finally get away without getting lost deep inside MN all morning long; this close purchase allowed many families living downstream within Anoka County some degree level direct access outside their individual farm fields even if they did have distant crossings over Big Stone Gap Creek by way OF roads northeastward into neighboring Ramsey County proper then homecountry—in short I think these days we should class these open public lands adjacent especially upstream SVSU campuses operated Auxiliary University Service Facilities========================== BALL PARK NEAR US HWY 6 AND MINNESOTA STATE ROAD 169A
