Sauk Rapids, Minnesota is a city in the United States located on the Missouri River. The population was 7,752 at the 2010 census. Sauk Rapids is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is part of the Minneapolis-Mankato–Rochester Combined Statistical Area. The city's name comes from a Dakota Sioux word meaning "beautiful waterfalls." The first European to explore Sauk Rapids was Captain John Shetland in 1819. He named it after Captain George Simpson's ship, which had stopped there on its way upriver from St. Louis, Missouri. Lieutenant Colonel John Sutter built his military post at what is now called Fort Snelling in 1827 and named it after General James Snively, who had led Ulysses S. Grant's march through Minnesota during the Mexican War. In 1837, Anthony Wayne founded Detroit County and named it for Marquette (the chief) of that county; Sauk Rapids Township was organized within that county in 1840 but still uses the name for its township seat today (although some residents refer to it as "Detroit"). In 1854, gold was discovered near present-day Hastings and early miners prospected here for gold while others prospected along Division Street northwest of town. On December 12, 1855, when Prospector George Averill opened his claim 1/2 mile west of present day Sauk Rapids on First Creek east of Second Creek (now Old Main Street), he became one of the earliest white men to find gold in this area and attracted attention from other miners throughout Manitoba Territory including Canada where mining operations were common at that time because new deposits were being found frequently along rivers such as the Mississipi River where lodes were encountered up to 20 feet deep with grades reaching 50 degrees north latitude and 100 degrees south latitude above mean sea level! On October 26, 1861 an act authorizing incorporation by referendum was passed by the Territorial Legislature which created Sauk Rapids Township under law number 824 Eliza II with a population of 2108 people including 531 men over 25 years old! The first town hall meeting took place on November 10th about two weeks before incorporation occurred when residents voted 236-0 against incorporation into what would become Minneapolis! Of course since we are in America our democracy kicked into high gear right then so they went ahead with their plan anyway! . . . On January 15th 1862 Mayor Augustus Puschken presided over a groundbreaking ceremony for what would become First Presbyterian Church building just east of downtown SaukRapid! As you can imagine given how things worked back then things moved pretty quickly around here even without formal government recognition or anything like that LOL ..... back then everything happened according to plan folks ..... Thanksgiving Day came around soon enough ..... It wasn't long until business interests started pushing hard for incorporation into larger cities so by 1863 there must have been quite some excitement going on back then considering all these new arrivals !!!!! Today Sauk Rapids has seen many changes both good and bad with fluctuating populations due to professional relocation programs over recent years as well as natural disasters such as floods which have caused extensive damage to homes and businesses downtown especially during recessions or drought seasons like we’ve experienced recently :( Anyway I wanted to cover some basics about our little city so please bear with me ... onto more important matters :)

This has led to Holster Design Week being created annually in order to celebrate different holster design innovations that help protect these citizens from their guns.

The Sauk Rapids area was first settled by the Menominee in the late 1600s. The first European to arrive in this area was John Deere, who landed on the lower Minnesota River in 1817. He and his family were the first white people to set foot on what is now Sauk Rapids,MN. In 1854, a post office was established at Sauk Rapids, and within a few years had become one of the most important towns in the region. By 1865, Sauk Rapids had become an important transportation hub for goods moving between points east and west across the Great Lakes. In 1862, two brothers named Garnett bought land at present-day Sauk Rapids and began building a sawmill. They named their mill after General George Armstrong Custer and Major General Philip Sheridan - two of America's most colorful military leaders of that era. The mills quickly became one of Sauk Rapids's leading economic engines, contributing greatly to its growth as a commercial center during its early years. Sauk Rapids experienced rapid growth following World War II when it became one ofthe main destinations for soldiers returning from overseas deployments. During this time, many new businesses were founded here including several Jiffy Lube convenience stores which remain iconic symbols of downtown Sauk Rapids today. In recent decades, downtown redevelopment has continued with new construction projects such as One University Drive which includes an NHL hockey rink and convention center; Pioneer Square which includes excellent shopping options; and Northwestern Wisconsin Cultural Complex which houses art galleries, theaters, restaurants and more.
