Sauk Rapids is a town in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Sauk Rapids is located along the Wiscona River on the border of Otter Tail and Douglas counties. The first settler in Sauk Rapids was John Kapp from Sweden who crossed the river in 1854. In 1855, Rasmus Rasmussen arrived from Norway and built a log cabin near present day downtown Sauk Rapids. Hired hands helped him with this and other endeavors for many years until his death in 1885. In 1907, dynamite was used to destroy an old mill south of town which had been on the property for several years. This event made Sauk Rapids known as "the place where explosives were used." In 1915, a small post office called Justusville was established at what is now north side of Main Street east of Center Street (now First Avenue). A year later that same year, the name change to Sauk Rapids when it became apparent that just across Center Street from Justusville there would be yet another post office - Sauk City - opened soon afterwards by George Wittell also known as “The Old Dutch” because he had formerly operated a grocery store hereabouts. As early as 1919 there were plans to build a water tower in town square but these never came to fruition before World War II when all civic activity stopped due to lack of funds; however one such effort did take place during those hostilities when two men erected temporary frames outside the northeast corner of Main and First Streets just west of Town Hall Square; both locals recall being met by law enforcement after completion! After 1946 there wasn't any real community presence left until 1992 when three new homes were built on land next door to Town Hall Square; subsequent renovation added an outdoor pool completes today's village atmosphere. Saul Weisman developed Weisman Farms near what is now downtown Sauk Rapids which continues to play an important role in local economy and culture today including hosting numerous events throughout the summer months such as country music festivals and Augustfest each year featuring various artisans from around central Minnesota

Some of the most famous moments include the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) through Congress in December 2015 and President Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20th, 2017. The town sprang up around a small fishing village called Sauk Falls which lies on the eastern edge of what is now Sauk Rapids Township. In 1854, Danish immigrants arrived in search of land and opportunity in America after fleeing religious persecution in their homeland. The new arrivals were given choice between staying in Denmark or moving west to what is today Minnesota; many chose to move west because they saw great opportunities for agriculture and industry along the newly opened prairies of Iowa and Wisconsin. In 1855, Peter Krieger established a flour mill at Sauk Rapids Falls with help from his brother-in-law Ole Christensen Jr., who had also come to America as part of the Danish immigration wave. By 1861, Krieger had built two more mills – one near present-day downtown Sauk Rapids and one east of Interstate 35W – making him one of America’s leading flour entrepreneurs during this early period of American industrialization Eventually, it would become clear that farming could not keep up with rising demand for grain throughout Great Britain and Europe – rates were constantly increasing while production remained stagnant or decreased altogether within America . To make ends meet, farmers began looking for other ways to generate income such as mining coal and cottonwood trees for lumber . This led to another important shift in American society during this time: companies started doing business out of state instead of within state borders . This change helped open up new markets for American goods while at the same time creating competition for U.S.-produced products abroad By 1865, Krieger had exhausted all his resources trying to keep his mills going using traditional methods including market demand rather than expanding into new areas . He turned his attention back home where he founded two more mills - one near present day downtown Sauk Rapids (the old Krieger Mill) and one east of Interstate 35W (the current Starke Mill). At this point it seemed like things might stay just that way until railroads came along later that decade… but they did much more than just bring trade into town; they also brought commerce , jobs , education , politics etc .)
