The town's economy depends heavily on farming and ranching activities such as raising chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, wheat, corn and soybeans; manufacturing includes making cheese and Leather Grenades; also operating a locallibrary system with over 100 titles including books on fashion & music There are several attractions located in or near Sartell including: the famous "Piney Woods" Wildlife Preserve where you can drive around circumference trails; the charming "Old Mill" village built in 1917 by Jock Mahoney; downtown which features a variety of businesses including restaurants, art galleries and boutiques; Aspen Hills Golf Course which offers challenging golf courses for players of all levels Sartell is home to two schools - Wadena-Hennepin Elementary School (K-5) and Maple Grove Middle School (6-8) - both of which offer excellent programs that support student growth throughout their school years. There are also three churches in town - First Presbyterian Church (built 1886), Lutheran Church (1887), Methodist Episcopal Church (1901).

Sartell, Minnesota is a small town located in thecentral part of the state of Minnesota. The population was 563 at the 2000 census. It was founded on December 4, 1906 by Swedish immigrants who named it after Sverige (Sweden). The name comes from the Swedish word "sarta" meaning 'to soothe'. The original settlers were farmers and their families. In 1929, Sartell had its first school and post office. By 1951, it had a population of 1,500 people. In 2006, Sartell had an estimated population of 653 people. The town has several cultural attractions including: the United States Post Office Administration Building which was built in 1909; Swedes Hall which is used for community functions; and Ziegler's Store which sells farm supplies and clothing. There are also two churches - St John's Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church - as well as a number of businesses including two banks, three grocery stores, four auto parts stores, two mechanic shops, one paper mill and one soap plant. Sartell is also home to a number of outdoor activities such as swimming in Lake Superior or playing lacrosse on Hennepin County-owned land outside the town limits.
The Sartell area was formally organized in 1855 as a part of the Dakota Territory. The town was named after General John Sartell, who fought in the American Civil War and later served as the military governor of Dakota Territory. The first post office was established at Sartell in 1856, and it remained in operation until 1862. In 1861, Sartell became an important location during the American Civil War when it played an integral role in the Battle of Fort Snelling. In 1865, following the end of the war, Sartell became a county seat of Ramsey County. It slowly declined over time due to economic reasons, but it regained its importance as a community during the early 21st century.
