It was used for hunting deer and other game. In 1854, William T. Hennepin organized the first ball game in Roseville when he and his friends set up a game field on the north side of town. The first rifle in Roseville was an old .50-caliber Remington that George Merton bought from Amos Farnsworth in 1865. By 1870, there were over fifty rifles in operation in the community." Roseville is a town in North Dakota, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fargo-Moorhead, ND Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Roseville was founded in 1881 by member of the Dakota Territory legislature John P. Green and his wife Julia Roberts Green. The original plat included land for a post office and school but no buildings were built until 1909 when the original schoolhouse became the first building on what would become Roseville's main street today known as Main Street. In 1911, two brothers who ran a restaurant in downtown Fargo opened what would be their only business in Roseville; it was called The Cafe and served beer and coffee from an early morning until late at night. In 1917, Arthur Auld opened the first grocery store in Fargo-Moorhead with 506 sq ft of floor space which he managed himself until 1930 when he sold it to JB Ellison who operated it until his death in 1949.
