Roseville is a city in Hennepin county, Minnesota, United States. The population was 20,853 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Hennepin County and the largest city east of Minneapolis. Roseville was founded on August 24, 1854 by Danish immigrants as a farm community called "Aurora." A stagecoach stop served Aurora from 1858 to 1865; however, no stage coaches traversed the present-day route between Aurora and Roseville until 1870 when one began running from downtown Minneapolis to Aurora every two hours. The first post office in town was established on October 6,1878 under the name "Aurora." In 1893, three merchants—Emanuel Sorenson, John Kappeler and Gustav Weiser—established what would become known as "The Three Gables" business district north of Central Avenue west of Main Street. This district grew rapidly due to its location near transportation arteries such as State Road 10 (now Interstate 35W) and main thoroughfares like State Road 12 (now Lyndale Avenue). In 1906–07 photographer Julius Nystrom took over production of MN Capital photo prints at his studio located at 424 Fifth Avenue (the old site of First National Bank), making this area one of Pioneer Square during that time period along with Roseville's Farmers Market redevelopment beginning in 2007 spearheaded by City Manager Rick Ziegler
