The town was founded in 1887 by Scandinavian immigrants who had come to America from Norway. The original settlers were farmers, but over time they became involved in lumbering and other businesses. The first post office was opened in 1888. In 1912 Roseville incorporated as a village. In 1970 it achieved city status and adopted a new name - Roseville-Eagan. The economy of Roseville has been largely based on agriculture since its incorporation until recently when manufacturing has become more significant with some businesses such as Albertsons situated within easy reach of most residents. Theughs are also an important employer with many jobs available for people who have some experience with plants and equipment; these include: truck drivers, machine operators, construction workers, warehouse employees and also sales representatives for health insurance companies which operate out of several stores in town
Roseville is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 16,844 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Minneapolis–St. Paul and the seventh-largest city in Minnesota. The first Roseville settlers were white men from Illinois who came to this area in 1851 during the Dakota War of 1855. This was also whenMinnesota's territorial government moved from St. Paul to Minneapolis after winning its independence from Great Britain. At that time, Roseville was part of what was called "the Upper Midwest". In 1867, a group of Swedes settled in what is now Roseville and started developing it as a farming community. They named their community Hope because they felt that God had given them an opportunity to start over again after experiencing so much hardship during the Mexican American War (1846-1848). In 1868, two brothers founded a grocery store on Seventh Street near south side of town – one later changed his name to Jenssons Grocery and kept it until 1923 when it merged with Macdonald’s Store next door and became Jensson’s Mall today. In 1886, John Wahlquist opened the first post office in Roseville which served residents for 4 years before closed due to lack of customers or mail service being available out there then too far away for most people to reach on foot or by wagon anymore. The last post office operated until 1912 when it burned down along with all other buildings associated with it including a grain elevator that sat next door! In 1922 Carl Akeley purchased land east of town from John Wahlquist for $600 and developed what would become known as "Akeley Forest" which still stands today about 1/4 mile northwest of downtown where he built his home and main business operations until his death in 1975. He left behind an extensive agricultural enterprise that continues today including more than 20 acres (80 hectares)of forested land withinRoseville limits.. From 1919 through 1927 local firefighter Epke Lundqvist served as captain of Engine Company No 2b which responded exclusively to fires inside the City Limits while also serving as dispatcher for other volunteer fire companies outside these boundaries; this company remains active today although no longer under captain Lundqvist's command
