The present spelling was chosen by General Mills until 1958 when they moved their corporate headquarters from Minneapolis to Rockford IL., changing their corporate name back again to United Cereal Corporation (UCC). The UCC plant has been located at its current location since it opened in 1916. It processes over two million tons of cereal every day! John Witherspoon who served from 1865 to 1867 and again from 1876 to 1880; he also served as president of the newly formed Minneapolis-St Paul County Board of Education from 1888 to 1889 In 1912, Rosemount became a city after it was annexed by Minneapolis. The city has experienced many changes over its history including becoming an agricultural center during World War II due to production of munitions jobs that were generated by nearby Mankato; becoming a gay rights haven following passage ofMinnesota's Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996; and experiencing rapid growth after annexation as a result of new retail development along Interstate 35W which increased traffic throughout the community . Today, Rosemount is an active community with businesses such as REI and Target located within walking distance while restaurants like Lou Malnoury's have made their presence felt since opening up shop ten years ago this year
In 1854, the first post office was established in Rosemount. In 1865, the first railroad station was built in Rosemount. The town of Rosemount was founded in 1887 and became a city in 1907.
