On top of this, construction began on what would become one of Twin Cities' largest shopping malls – Park Plaza – in 2006 adjacent to Interstate 59/ 61; park plaza now features more than 150 stores including Sears Holdings (later Sears Roebuck) and Kmart before their closure in December 2015 following Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings that bankrupted them;[1] this development brought new life to an otherwise largely abandoned section of town center which saw abandonment rates increase from about 30% prior to redevelopment to almost 50%. Today, Robbinsdale remains a vibrant community with strong economic ties to its neighbouring townships thanks also to its proximity to I-59/ 61; buses arrive regularly from all around Ramsey County for residents who work or study nearby.[2][3] Recently renovated portions of Park Plaza - including several restaurants - have helped make it even more appealing for residents seeking convenience store options close by while still remaining essentially unchanged since 2006,[4] further evidence that this once struggling but resurgent community is becoming increasingly prosperous despite difficult times
