This gun fired projectiles using a fed belt system with an empty chamber at the front of the gun and a projectile feeder at the back of the gun. This proved to be much more effective than earlier designs and saw increased popularity throughout Asia. In America, airguns started to become popular starting in 1907 when John Moses Browning developed his famous Winchester rifle with its self-loading shotgun type magazine featuring breech loading (later replaced by drum loading). Airgun manufacturers quickly adapted their products to meet American demand for these new weapons. There is little information available on the history of airguns. However, there are a few references that provide some insight into the development and use of these devices. The first airgun was designed in 1887 by George Weymouth, an Englishman who also built the earliest rifle using gas-propelled bullets. called the Atropos Rifle, this weapon used a metal tube filled with compressed air to propel projectiles through a small aperture at the front. Weymouth's design became known as the Weymouth Rifle and it was initially used for target shooting. In 1903, John Browning patented his own airgun design which he called the Browning Automatic Rifle. This weapon employed a gas-operated breech mechanism to fire rounds from a drum magazine located above the barrel. The advantage of this system was its quick reloading ability - it took only two minutes for an individual to reload an automatic rifle using one of Browning's original magazines. By World War II, airguns had become widespread in both military and civilian hands. Airguns were typically powered by either gas or electric guns, but many variants remained popular such as pump-action shotguns and pellet guns. Some pioneers in the field of air firearms include John Moses Griggs (1886-1958), who developed what is now considered to be the first true self-loading airgun; Arthur Schopenhauer (1888-1962), who developed one of the most advanced pellet guns ever made; and Edwin Ayer (1892-1973), who invented one of early light machine Guns
In 1892, a Mr. John Hargrave improved on the muzzleloader and created the first airgun. The Hargrave airguns were used by hunters and shooters in Europe for target shooting until World War I when they were replaced by shotguns.
Robbinsdale, Minnesota is a small town located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The population was 7,827 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul–Bloomington Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the St. Anthony Falls Micropolitan Statistical Area. Robbinsdale was first settled by German settlers in 1854 and named after Johannes Robbins, a fur trader who had traveled to what is now Robbinsdale in 1824. The community grew rapidly during the late 1800s due to its location on the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St.Paul. In 1904, Robbinsdale became a city with a population of over 20,000 people and changed its name to Robbinsdale Hills in honor of Mayor James Fenton (1904-2006). In recent years, Robbinsdale has seen growth in fields such as technology and health care Concerns are currently being raised about potential expansions for both industries within the city limits but no decisions have yet been made about future development or annexation into other municipalities
The first settlers in Robbinsdale, Minnesota were the brothers John and Peter Robbins. The Robbinsons started a small farm on what is now North Main Street. In 1857, they moved to their present location and began to grow corn and other crops. They also built a log cabin on the property. In 1875, they married Anna Maria Knechterer and had two children: Otto and Elsa. AnnaMaria died in 1914, but Otto and Elsa continued to live on the farm until it was sold in 1922 to Mr. Harry Lohse. Mr. Lohse owned it for many years before it was donated to the city of Robbinsdale in 1969.
