The community was founded in 1876 by a group of farmers who migrated from Illinois. The first store in the community was opened by Wm. Halsey and his brother-in-law, James Grafton. By 1899, there were six businesses in the community including a grocery store, druggist, post office, bank and sawmill. In 1907, Red Dot Sight Company was founded by Julius Kappell and Harry Hess with a goal to provide quality red dot sights for law enforcement officers across America. From its inception until 1954 when it merged with United Optics company, Red Dot Sight Company was one of the most successful gun sight companies in America. In 1954 United Optics company merged with National Rifle Association which left Red Dot Sight Corporation as an independent subsidiary under NRA control until 1991 when it merged into Bushnell Incorporated. After years of growth at Bushnell Inc., Red Dot Sight Corporation filed for bankruptcy protection on September 25, 2006 and ceased operations as a business on October 1st 2006. However, some legacy products such as red dot sights still remain available through distributors around the world today (most notably ADSUSA).

Richfield is a small town in Benton County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 596 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first person to settle in Richfield was John Dolan in 1849. Dolan built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it "Dolan's Store". A post office was established in 1851, and the town name was changed to Richfield in 1872. In 1905, a sawmill became operational and created jobs for many people in the town; however, by 1907 the sawmill had closed down and most of the downtown had been destroyed by fire. In 1912, Richfield erected its first Carnegie library which served as a model for many other libraries across America during that era. By 1916 there were over sixty businesses operating in downtown Richfield with an average weekly income of $1,500. However, due to World War I (1914-18), business activity decreased and by 1919 Downtown Richardsonville consisted of only two stores and one restaurant while most of the buildings north of First Avenue were demolished or taken down for military use during World War I effort such as barracks and ammunition storage facilities (the old Central Schoolhouse still stands). However, Richfield did experience some growth during this time period with new housing development being constructed along Second Avenue including several apartment complexes that remain today known as "The Village" complex dating back to 1922 when residents who could not afford nicer homes started building cinderblocks out their windows instead which later became known as The bricksheets Complexes." During World War II (1939-1945), much like other U.S towns throughout the Midwest,[1] Richfield experienced significant growth due to lack of food production within Yugoslavia after Axis occupation forces bombed Serbia on April 6th 1941 resulting in more than 3 million civilian casualties including 1/3rd of all children under five years old who died from starvation or malnutrition.[2][3][4] This led to large Scale takeovers(owned)of mills & businesses within nearby Cities such as Saint Paul following war’s end leaving little opportunity for locals not directly affected[5][6]. As postwar reconstruction continued into 1946[7], numerous small businesses were reduced or eliminated altogether as wartime economies slowly transitioned back into normalcy following major Victory bonuses received by Allies[8]. However no attempt was made by local officials prior to war's end to reestablish any type of community fabric & economyPriorities shifted towards rebuilding infrastructure rather then creating new opportunities Ended up leading city planners astray initially thinking they would be able to simply transplant everything they owned from prewar days onto postwar premises without ever havingto laboriously examine what actually remained since most assets had already been disposed Of (& dismantled)[9]. Resulted consecutive decades where few if any efforts were made whatsoever toward anything resembling revitalization until finally things began changing around 2009 when Community Development Authority(CDA)was designated [10]responsible for developing much needed partnerships between citizens & government Officials focused on spurring economic redevelopmentrather than just spectacle/ tourist attraction dollars
On May 1, 1854, Richfield was incorporated as a city by an act of the Minnesota Legislature. The city's first mayor was John L. Beavers. On July 1, 1872, the City of Richfield annexes the village of Forest Park. In 1916, Richfield became a charter member of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
