Richfield is a town in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The name comes from Richfield Creek and Richaland Township, both in Dakota Territory. The first settler in Richfield was John Beckman, who arrived in 1857. A post office was established here on December 9, 1858, and remained open until it was discontinued on July 21, 1916. The first store built in Richfield was the Star-Bazaar Store which opened on November 17, 1865; it became an anchor point for what would become a large agricultural community. In 1870 the first school building was erected by the Richfeld School District; this structure served as their main school until 1912 when a new annex were constructed that still serves as today's Main High School building (now used as a storage facility). In 1902 there were three churches in town: First Methodist (1872), Second Presbyterian (1887), and Lutheran (1912). By 1920 there were 13 businesses in town with a total payroll of $3 million! In 1925 local farmers formed the Farmers Union to resist price increases brought about by commercial farming practices imported from abroad and implemented by state officials at that time. At around this time too construction began on what would become downtown—the current site of Richfield Civic Center—which continued through most of the Great Depression without interruption until 1974 when demolition began following an appeal to preserve its unique Packard-built brick courthouse/ jail complex along with other associated buildings including the Masonic Lodge Building which still stands today adjacent to Interstate 37 across from Elmhurst Elementary School—-both contributing assets to much iconography within downtown during that period(See photo below)). Downtown redevelopment took place after World War II under auspices of downtown planning organizations such as Central City Development Corporation before finally being terminated with comprehensive demolitions taking place between 1967-1970 which removed virtually all evidence remaining from those earlier centuries! etc…..Today only some remnant foundation remains underlying many additions dating back to late 1800's.......It should be noted however that early days rural areas often relied upon buffalo dung chutes or longhorn trails for transportation so few if any markings remaintoday ....... One significant event occurring during these years also related to downtown redevelopment had been Budweiser’s purchase of land east of Interstate 35 just south of Interstate 94 for use as an industrial park; this came about because major brewers desired access to land near Minneapolis where they could expand their operations into unincorporated areas outside city limits while avoiding paying taxes levied against them within city limits

The town developed into a small, agricultural community and experienced some growth during the late 19th century as a result of its location on the Red River on the border of Dakota and Minnesota. In 1916, Richfield became an incorporated city. After World War II, Richfield increased its population through out-migration to nearby Saint Paul and other cities. However, steady economic growth has kept the town afloat over the years and it is now among the largest communities in Richfield Township.
