Ramsey, Minnesota is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was founded in 1868 by John Ramsey and his wife, Emma. The town has a population of just over 1,000 people as of 2010. John Ramsey was born in 1827 in what is now Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He came to Ramsey in 1868 and began farming the land that he currently owns. Ramsey is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settler in Ramsey was George Wickersham, who arrived in 1859. He started a farm and store on the east side of town. Wickersham's son-in-law James McMillan purchased land on the west side of town from Wickersham in 1865. McMillan built a house on what is now Superior Avenue and named it Ramsey after his father-in-law's home state, Vermont. The first school in Ramsey was organized on October 15, 1870 by Prentice Senter with twelve students from Maple Grove School District No. 2 south of Minneapolis and one student each from Thomson and Washington Schools Districts No (northwest). In 1872, John Ladd moved to Ramsey from Red Wing Township and opened a grocery store called Ladd & Company which became one of the most successful businesses in town until it closed its doors in 1907 due to economic recession caused by prohibition laws then being passed by Congress. In 1886 Elisha Tilton opened an ice cream parlor at 6th Street and Superior Avenue called The Ice Cream Palace which later became known as Pioneer Park State Park; this establishment served as the nucleus for what would become downtown Stroudsburg when that community began to grow around it following incorporation into Ramsey County in 1887; however, "Pioneer Park" did not actually exist until 1888 when frontage along Sixth Street between Superior Avenue and Seventh Street were added to create Pioneer Park State Park after concerns raised about development along that street corner which would have blocked views of Twin Cities buildings across Seventh Street – thus creating downtown Stroudsburg rather than just its eastern border today! In 1902 Drury Shaw bought some land adjacent to present day University Ave., north of Superior Avenue near where Interstate 94 now meets Highway 544 had been situated since 1916 as part of what would be known as Shaw’s Prairie Farm; this property eventually became Ramseys Agricultural Extension Center also located within University Ave./Route 84 boundary today while much acreage surrounding it remain undeveloped currently used for other purposes such as agricultural research by University Of Minnesota Extension Service! Holidays celebrated throughout history have included: Thanksgiving Day (1876), Christmas Day (1892), Easter Sunday (1896), New Year's Eve (1901), Stonewall Jackson Day parade/day celebration July 4th 1901 commemorating stroke event leading up to America's Civil War victory over General Robert E Lee - date officially changed to July 4th because First Amendment prevents military celebrations happening on U.S.-owned soil! Ramsey has had several mayors including: Cyrus Hargrave (Mayors office 1895 – 1898) Arthur Atherton (January 3rd 1903 – January 3rd 1905) Harry Emerson Fosdick November 14th 1909 – November 17th 1911) Jock Mahoney February 12th 1915 – February 16th 1917) Charles Lindbergh February 3rd 1927 – May 2nd 1929).

It grew rapidly due to the discovery of gold in the area, and by 1862 the town had a population of 168 people. In 1865, Ramsey became the seat of government for Ramsey County. The county was formed from parts of Dakota Territory and Minnesota Territory. By 1870, there were 1,488 residents in Ramsey County. The economy changed after World War II because of new jobs in agriculture and manufacturing. Today, Ramseys are mostly rural towns with a small urban center that is home to schools and businesses.
