Ramsey, Minnesota is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota and is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. It is situated on Ramsey Lake, east of downtown Minneapolis and west of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Ramsey's ZIP code is 55123. The first inhabitants were two groups of Dakota Sioux who called themselves "Hakoda" and "N Dakota". They arrived in 1851 and built their village on the site now known as Ramsey Lake. The town was named for Major General George Ramsey, an American general who served with distinction during the Mexican-American War and Indian Wars, including leading engagements at Prospect Hill (1846), Buena Vista (1847) and Little Big Horn (1868). In 1875, Ramsey became the capital of what would become Minnesota when it was established as a territory from Iowa to coincide with that state's admission into the Union as a free state. In February 1909, residents voted to add an extra term to their local governing body - county commissioners - after only three months' notice had been given about changing boundaries within their own municipality. When it became evident that no new land had been offered for annexation by neighboring towns since 1900, commissioners began investigating other possibilities for expansion into what would become Ramsey County; this led to their creation in 1911 as a metropolitan area around Minneapolis/St Paul which included all but two villages within its borders: Maplewood (northwest side) and Eden Prairie (southwest side). Today, more than 60% ofRamsey's population lives inside its city limits while 30% resides in unincorporated rural areas surrounding the town limits; these boundaries have not changed since 1959 when they were set by referendum without input from any party or individual citizens residing within them; they remain unchanged because they are essential to maintaining Ramseys unique character as a small community steeped in history and culture

He was born in New York City in 1784 and moved to what is now east-central Minnesota when he was eighteen years old. In 1856 he married Jane Clark who had also come down from Missouri some time earlier. The couple raised four children before moving westward into what is now south Dakota Territory in 1863 because they believed it would be more peaceful there than back East where they were living at the time. They remained there until 1865 when they returned to live in Ramsey again because they felt it would be more secure here than South Dakota Territory which was then under Sioux control
Ramsey was founded in 1881 by John Ramsey. He started the town with $10 worth of land and a mill he built. The town took off and became a major center for lumber and farming. In 1906, Ramsey donated land to the University of Minnesota. The university has since been one of the most important forces in Ramsey history.
