Ramsey is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1851 by John Ramsey and his family as a farmstead on the east side of what is now Interstate 94. The name change to Ramsey in 1875 after John's brother, James Ramsey, who served as mayor of St. Paul from 1875 to 1880 and then again from 1881 to 1889. In 1907, John's grandson, Harry Moulton Ramsey Jr., became the first mayor of Ramsey Township when he was elected over incumbent Democrat Abram Fenton with 78% of the vote. Harry's son Harry Moulton Ramsey III (1910-1990) succeeded him as mayor in 1966 and held that office until 1991; during his term there were no other women mayors inMinnesota until 2000 when Henni Ziegler took office. In 2006, incumbent Republican Norm Coleman won re-election against Democratic challenger Russ Feingold with 71% of the vote; however Coleman vacated office before taking office due to term limits set by Minnesota law which restrict how long an individual can serve as Mayor of a city or township with a population greater than 50000 residents without running for re-election every 4 years. Coleman's successor Tom Emmert won the November election but left office early because he had been convicted on five misdemeanor counts related to campaign finance violations—the most recent being income tax evasion—in 2008; these convictions resulted in a $100 fine rather than imprisonment which would have allowed him to run for another four year term without having to worry about future indictments/convictions. In 2009 Norm Coleman announced he would be running for U S Congress but decided not to pursue it after being indicted on federal bribery charges unrelated to his time as Mayor ofRamsey Township

Today, Ramsey remains a small but vibrant community located just outside of Minneapolis-St. Paul's city limits while still benefiting from its close proximity to both large urban areas and world-renowned colleges and universities like University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMN), Hennepin County State Fairgrounds, Target Field and Stinson Beach Park.
Ramsey was founded in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants, and became a town in 1872. The first post office was established in Ramsey in 1875. The town grew rapidly due to the arrival of farmers and other small businesses, and by 1907 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1912, Ramsey became an incorporated town. In 1916, the United States Post Office Department moved from Minneapolis to Ramsey, making it the first U.S. post office within a municipality. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II as a result of the thriving military base at nearby Duluth, Minnesota; throughout the war years various industries flourished here including metalworking and agriculture (poultry production being especially significant). Between 1945 and 1950 almost two-thirds of all new housing built in Ramsey was single family homes; this change came about as a result of postwar baby boomers moving into rural America seeking more affordable housing options than city living could provide. After the war ended, industry began disappearing as well; instead, growing numbers of people started workingin professional jobs outside their home towns or states altogether. This trend continued untilthe late 1990s when it began to reverse - now most new housing constructed in Ramsey is multi-family dwellings attributable to migrants coming back into rural areas looking for stability and opportunity after several decades of economic decline
