In the early 1800s, Plymouth, Minnesota was one of the most Wendish communities in America. The community was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1881. The town was named after Captain John Fordick, who discovered the area in 1824 while exploring Dakota Territory. The first shooting incident at Plymouth took place on October 3, 1881 when an unknown gunman shot and killed a man named Harry White. This event is considered to be the first murder in Plymouth. In 1907, Plymouth became one of the few towns in Minnesota to prohibit handguns (self-defense only). It wasn’t until 1968 thatMinnesota became a state with any open carry legislature. Plymouth is a village in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Plymouth is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The village has a post office and two churches: First Baptist and Plymouth Presbyterian. Plymouth was platted in 1854 by Andrew J. White and named for the port town of Plymouth on Lake Michigan where he had been born in 1821. White was one of the founders of Minneapolis when it was founded in 1856, and he served as its first mayor from 1865 to 1870. The Village Board voted to name their new post office after Mrs. Anna Hennepin (1820-1920), who donated land for a school and rural community here in 1862 following her move from Rochester, New York to become the first female physician in Minnesota. Mrs. Hennepin also endowed a fund that helped maintain local roads and bridges through townhood donations until 1915; this fund still exists today as the Anna Hennepin Avenue Bridge Restoration Project Foundation Incorporated (AHAVPF). The first church built here was First Baptist which opened its doors on October 15, 1860; it would be replaced by Plymouth Presbyterian Church in 1889 due to financial difficulties experienced with that building’s construction program alone! In 1902, Plymouth became an incorporated village after passing an election approving incorporation by vote of all villagers living within 3 miles of its borders - complete with zoning regulations specific to villages! The first post office in Plymouth was established on November 15, 1872. The present courthouse and police station were built in 1903. Plymouth was founded by Norwegian immigrants who arrived there during the 1850s. By 1870, the town had a population of 130 and became an agricultural center with land grants from the state. In 1909, Plymouth voters approved a $5 million bond issue to build a new high school and other public buildings. The plantation-style high school opened in 1912 and served as the community's primary educational institution until it closed in 1978; however, some remnants of its architecture remain today at nearby Stroudsburg High School and Carver County Technical College. The decline of agriculture in Plymouth following World War II led to declines in population and commercial activity throughout most of Carver County; however, Plymouth continued to serve as an important cultural and social center for many years afterwards before becoming an almost exclusively rural community again within Carver County limits by 2000. Despite this decline, local historians continue to celebrate aspects of their history such as Pioneer Day (April 20), which celebrates significant moments or events related to early settler life hereabouts; Pioneer Days are celebrated annually throughout much of Carver County now including parts of neighboring Dodge City Municipal Airport Authority
