In recent years, efforts have been made by local officials to revive downtown aspects of Plympton while still maintaining access to both an airport and other key transportation destinations within minutes' drive. In February 2013, Mayor Rick Nolan announced that he would seek approval from voters in November 2014 for $10 million in tax dollars to be used towards downtown revitalization projects such as sidewalks, lighting, new storefronts and reconstruction of streetscape features; if approved, this would become the largest ever investment ever made by City Hall in Downtown Plymouth Township The overall goal is for downtown Plympton to reach a level where it can serve as a vibrant tourist destination that attracts people from all over Minnesota as well as visitors from around the world," said Mayor Nolan at a news conference announcing initial results of a survey conducted last fall targeting potential investors who might provide financial support for early stage redevelopment plans for what will now be known as "Downtown Plympton." According him "We want this place [Downtown Plympton] back up and running like it used to be." There has also been talk about creating retail corridors similar in concept or size (if not scale) along 3rd Street North between State Street/Highway 61/6th Avenue South - these could eventually include restaurants or other commercial operators - which could act as anchors attract local residents back into Downtown Plympton while attracting more tourists who may fill up hotel rooms near state Highway 61/6th Ave South should development happen southward
