Scope mounts have been a part of rifle shooting for over 100 years. In Owatonna, Minnesota, the first scope mount was installed in 1903. The design and construction of these mounts were done by a group of volunteers under the direction of Colonel Edwin J. Armstrong. This group is considered to be the fathers of modern scope mounts. In 1916, General John J. Pershing authorized the use of rifles with bipod sights across all branches of the military. This led to the development of scopes with adjustable turrets that could be mounted on rifles using Scope Mounts (SM). These new SM's allowed shooters to aim their rifles at targets located up to 300 yards away without having to reach for their binoculars or telescopes. Owatonna is located on the Owatonna River and has a total area of 17.0 square miles (41.2 km²). The first settler in what is now Owatonna was James Smith in 1851. The town was organized in 1864, and incorporation took place in 1865. The first store opened in 1868, and saw growth until it closed its doors in 1896 due to lack of business opportunity. From 1902-1912, Owatonna had an ice plant that produced thousands of pounds of ice each day for local customers and shipped out to other towns within Minnesota and Illinois. In 1916, the city limits were expanded to include present-day Owatona Township; this allowed for more commerce development within the community as well as new residential areas being built around present-day south end of town along Park Avenue. The decline occurred during World War II because much production stopped due to wartime restrictions on exports from rural America; however, Owatonna did not experience any major economic setbacks until after the war ended when many businesses reopened thanks to abundant natural resources such as coal and oil that had been newly discovered nearby. Since then, owatanonians have seen productivity increase through innovation and entrepreneurship which has led to increased GDP per capita by about 15%. This success story can be traced back to two key players: Wyndham College’s successful incubation program which helps students become entrepreneurs; as well as faculty who are dedicated to providing quality education while also nurturing entrepreneurial spirit within their students

Owatonna, Minnesota was founded in 1854 by Danish immigrants. The town became a small community and post office was established in 1855. In 1870, the town's first school was opened and in 1881, the first library was established. The population of Owatonna grew steadily until it peaked at around 10,000 people in 1950 before slowly declining over the next few decades. By 1990, the population had dwindled to below 1,000 residents and ceased to exist as an organized community. However, Owatonna's history remains significant due to its role in the development of the United States and its ties to Denmark.
