In 1851, a blacksmith named Andrew Smith opened a shop in Owatonna. He started manufacturing pistols and rifles. His products were sold throughout eastern Minnesota. In 1872, John Wesson opened a gun store in Owatonna and began selling handguns as well. Wesson's pistols were known for their accuracy and durability. The company produced over 100 different models of handguns over the years.
Owatonna is a town in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located on the Owatonna River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 914. The name "Owatonna" is an Ojibwe word meaning "Place where the water flows." The first settler in what is now Owatonna was Jonas Rasmusen, who arrived in 1836. His family built a cabin on top of a low hill near present-day Main Street and Highway 22. In 1840, John Sorenson set up a post office at this location and named it after his brother Ole Sorenson from Hennepin County, Minnesota. In 1851, Edwin Lininger bought land east of town from Rasmusen and started to build a sawmill and gristmill there. In 1855, he added a store and hotel to his business. By 1861, he had also built several churches in town – one being dedicated to Saint Olaf (now Minneapolis). The first school was built in 1865 by Rev. Rufus Burchfield as part of the Methodist Church–Walking School District #1 (later known as First United Methodist Church). In 1870, Isaac Anderson founded what is now Pioneer Insurance Company along with two other men: Jens Olsen and Eduard Nordlundsgaard. They began selling insurance door to door acrossMinnesota Territory until they were forced out by Indian fighters led by Black Hawk that year during the Great Sioux War; their products were confiscated by local authorities and their assets seized without compensation or trial (the event is still remembered as one of the darkest days for Minnesotans'). In 1872 when Owatonna incorporated as a municipality, Gertrude Rankin became its first city councilwoman; she served until her death in 1951. Her husband Julius Rankin succeeded her on CITY COUNCILMANship becoming Mayoralty Counselor during World War II before retiring from politics in 1955 after 64 years service thereto; he died suddenly just shy of his 80th birthday at home while caring for his wife Gertrude who continued living alone until her death later that year at age 92 years old which made him only 7 months shy of 100 years old! The influx of Scandinavian immigrants beginning around 1880 changed many aspects about life here such as religion ( Lutheranism) education level available for children attending school (average age 10), occupational choices available for young people like handrafters or farmers/smiths etc., social customs like gift giving or consumption habits like raised voices used inside homes back then among others... even our drinking water source today comes from Clearwater creek which flowed through this area long ago! Today's residents are descendants not onlyof those early settlers but also their successors since most all darn good citizens hereabouts have been born within our community boundaries since well before anyone here ever set foot on Canadian soil... During his presidency, Eisenhower made great strides towards improving military readiness and increasing international cooperation through his initiatives such as NATO and EASAC- both of which were later renamed CENTCOM under his successor George H.W Bush Sr.. This included helping to solidify U.S.-Dakota relations following years of tension between America and Great Britain over mineral rights in North Dakota and South Saskatchewan
