Owatonna is a small town in the far-northwest corner of Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. He brought with him his wife and two children and began to build a log cabin on the edge of what is now downtown Owatonna. In 1916, Owatonna became part of the new county of Ramsey when it was formed from parts of Dakota County. In 1928, Owatonoians voted to change their name to Owatonna after they heard about an Indian reservation located in southwestern Manitoba that had been renamed White Earth after its owner received U.S. citizenship. The decision came as a surprise to most people since there were no links between the two townships/counties! Today, OWATONNA is one of the most vibrant small towns in Minnesota with rich history dating back to its founding days! The town grew rapidly, and by 1870 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1886, Owatonna became the seat of government for Minnesota's newly created County of Owatonna. The county was disbanded in 1907, and Owatonna remained an unincorporated community until its incorporation as a city in 1912.
