Otsego, Minnesota is a small town in the heart of the Great Lakes region. It's located in the Otsego County seat of Otsego, about 25 miles east of Minneapolis and 15 miles north of St. Paul. Its population was 553 at the 2000 census. The township has a total area of 3 square miles (9 km²). The first settler in what is now Otsego Township was David Schieffer on September 7, 1855. He and his family built a log cabin on the edge of what is now Maple Grove Lake. David Schieffer was born in Germany in 1792 and emigrated to America with his parents in 1824. They settled near modern-day Stoughton, Wisconsin but eventually moved to Otsego Township where they died in 1865 and 1870 respectively. The first school opened in Ottsego on November 9, 1868 by Mrs. Fenton Hodge. It was a one-room schoolhouse that taught children from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. In 1933, it became an eight-room annex to the current building which still serves as the primary school for Otsego Township today! In 1916, Edwin "Ed" Wright set up a grocery store just west of present day Maple Grove Boulevard and called it The Wright Grocery Store until 1951 when he sold it to Jens Olesen who ran it until 1984 when it merged into Supervalu Incorporated! One significant event that took place during those early years was World War II when The Wright Grocery Store played an important role as both First National Bank and Wartime Loan Center!

Otsego is a town in Otsego County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. The name "Otsego" is French for "east." It was platted in 1872 by the railroads as part of their effort to find a location for their new line between Minneapolis and Chicago. The town originally was named Fillmore but it was changed to Otsego in honor of General George Washington Otis (1763-1845). The first settler in what would become Otsego County was Abram Hildebrandt who arrived from Norway around 1853. He and his family founded the village of Fillmore on the edge of present-day Otsego County on May 1, 1855. This early community had a school and two stores. On July 1, 1870, Fillmore merged with nearby Easton to form the larger community of OtseGO which held its first meeting that day under the presidency of Jacob Hussey. In 1871, Easton moved out east and left behind its buildings and founding fathers including father Abel Greenough who served as mayor from 1907 until his death in 1922; son John Greenough who served as mayor from 1961 until his death in 1987; daughter Rena Greeneough who currently serves as Mayor pro tempore; and husband George Wiegand also serving as city attorney at that time. In 1916, during World War I local citizens helped found Camp Butler which became one of America's largest training camps for soldiers preparing for war. After the war ended, many residents decided to move back into homes they'd built or recreate their farmssteads within walking distance of downtown where they could enjoy fresh air and close interaction with their fellow citizens. One such example is Mrs Sarah Jansen’s home on Third Street which still stands today after being remodeled several times over its years life as a grocery store before becoming an inn catering to tourists known now simply as “The Inn at OtseGO” while her son continued running it until he sold it to current owners Rick & Lori Kapp about 8 years ago! One reason so many people have enjoyed this property over time is because despite being right next door neighbours stopped bothering you when you were living there! People are long gone but not forgotten here at “The Inn at OTSEGO”!
