Otsego is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,913 at the 2010 census. Otsego is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name of the town comes from a Dakota Sioux word meaning "badlands." The first Europeans to visit what is now Otsego were French traders in 1805 and 1806. In 1812, fur traders founded the city of Mankato on the site of present-day Otsego. In 1819, John Goodrich established an east-west trading post on current day Main Street in Otsego Township. It was called Goodrich's Post until 1870 when it changed to its current name because it lay near where General George Armstrong Custer's cavalry unit was based when he fought at Black Hawk Creek against Sioux Indians in 1876. In 1893, a group of Norwegian immigrants settled in what is now northwest Otsego Township and began developing those lands into farms that would become part of the community today. They named their farmstead "Ottervatnet" (oti = otter + vatnet = house). The first store opened there in 1896 by Jørgen Olsen and his wife Gulahild Ankermoen Olsen (1865 – 1951). A post office was established at "Ottervatnet" in 1898, and remained operational until 1959. The growth of agriculture led to some conflict with neighboring towns over land usage and water access which led to several skirmishes between farmers and townspeople over the years; one such incident took place on February 21st 1904 when two farmers from Oneida County attempted to cross a local stream into Otsego Township for harvesting purposes only to be intercepted by villagers who had seen them coming through their own gates! As early as 1889 there were reports that white settlers were buying up tracts of Indian land around Mankato foruropoda Lake while also purchasing coal beds at Coal Run Rapids located about northeast of present-day Ottesonielland before shipping it downriver for use as fertilizer on their farms Thereafter activity increased significantly with numerous purchases being made throughout 1890s totaling more than 2 million acres or almost every square mile along both banks of the river including all or parts of: Mankato township., Maplewood village., Springdale village., Hutchinsonvillage., Elmira village., Troonville Village.(the last three villages being amalgamated into Mankato after 1907) This pattern continued unabated well beyond World War I when many individuals seeking agricultural opportunities discovered new coal beds filling up rapidly along rivers throughout eastern Minnesota especially due during this time period areas such as White Earth county & Iron Range statehood grants enabled these deposits to be developed commercially resulting not only in increased wealth but also increased job opportunities open unto men regardless of race thereby creating singleohanized neighborhoods/communities across states line thereby reinforcing social stratification resultant within URBANIZED cultures

Otsego is a small town in southeast Minnesota, United States. The population was 586 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Duluth-Superior, MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Otsego was founded in 1854 as a post office and community on the east side of the Mississippi River. The first school in Otsego was a log cabin built by John Prentice in 1855. In 1865, the town had three schools; one for white children and two for Indian children. A Presbyterian church was built in 1870 and additions were made to it until it became an all-purpose facility in 1905. The village became an incorporated municipality in 1902 and adopted its present name of Otsego on November 3, 1904. In 1916, there were only ten residents; however, with World War I looming ahead, Otsego had to get involved militarily and entered into an agreement with the United States Army that would allow military training for local citizens on their farmlands. The first class of American soldiers arrived here August 1918 and began their training at what is now Fort Snelling; however, within months they were sent back home due to war restrictions placed on America by Europe at this time. In 1920, Otsego acquired farmland along Farm Road 8 near Superior which would become its central business district (CBD). This area remains today as downtown OtsegoWalk which includes most of the shops and businesses located around First Avenue South between Third Street Southwest and Fourth Street South including many independent restaurants such as Angus Beef & Brewery which opened its doors in 1977 after moving from Clinton Township adjacent to Superior University while still being run as a private enterprise managed by family members who continue to own/manage it today despite changes in ownership over time). The city annexed portions of neighboring townships beginning with East Grand Forks Township on July 1st 1922 making it difficult for those communities to maintain any sort of mutually beneficial relationship with their larger neighbor without giving up land or services (see map below).
In 1857, the town of Otsego was organized. In 1912, it became a county seat. The population of Otsego rose to over 1,000 in 1920 and peaked at 2,500 in 1930. However, the population declined during the Great Depression and World War II. In 1957, Otsego was renamed part of Ramsey County.
