The economy of Otsego is based primarily on agriculture and fishing;[4][5] there are also some small businesses involved in manufacturing goods such as food processors and paper products.[6][7][8] The community has two churches—the United Methodist Church and the Lutheran church—and a library.[9] There are also several parks located within walking distance of the town center.
Otsego County was erected in 1837, and named for the Otsego River. The county seat is Otsego City. It was reorganized in 1854, and again in 1871. In 1899, it became a part of Dakota Territory.
