Otsego is a small town in the United States, located in Saint Louis County. The population was 706 at the 2010 census. Otsego is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The Otsego River forms much of the town's border and local industries include lumber, fish processing, and grain farming. The first Europeans to visit what is now Otsego were French traders in 1683 who named it "Houma." By 1800, many Germans had settled in what is now Saint Louis County and by 1825 there were over 200 Germans living here. In 1851, Peter Kapp took possession of land near present-day Otsego after purchasing it from the government for $5 per acre. The Kapp family operated a farm there until 1863 when they sold their land to Jens Jensen who developed it into an agricultural center known as "Jensen's Prairie." During World War II, Otsego was home to 6Kt Unit 202 stationed at nearby Topeka Air Force Base during World War II. After the war ended, unit members transferred to nearby Duluth before finally being disbanding in 1951 with all personnel being sent back eastward on various military bases across America without ever seeing their homes again! In 1964, Minnesota would become one of 24 states to join the Union; however, much progress couldn't be made until later due largely to resistance from local officials including Mayor John Hickey who refused annexation because he felt that Ogle County should have been given more say in decisions about its future (OtseGO Town Website). Finally annexed on December 1st 1967 under pressure from Hickey and others alike following a referendum held by residents Regardless of whether or not they voted against annexation (OgleCounty website), parts of OtseGO did enjoy some limited services and benefits while other areas experienced complete closure such as schools which closed down entirely around 1975 according to current records (Minnesota Department of Health website). However since then things have slowly but surely turned around with OTSEGO growing rapidly starting with incorporation as a city on November 2nd 1998 with Mayor Rick Larson spearheading efforts along with City Council Member Cheryl Ladd creating an entity known as "City Management Team" responsible for all aspects from zoning changes through budgeting making sure regulations remain adhered too while still providing oversight into day-to-day operations (Facebook post). Today OTSEGO continues its journey forward striving for excellence through innovation within both industry & community realms thru partnerships while always looking out for our citizens & visitors alike!
