After starting his own business for several years, Macdonald began noticing that it was harder for him to get the same quality results with his old farming tools as it was with new ones. In 1915, Mr. Jansen donated land to build an elementary school which replaced an old sawmill building on Third Street which had been used as jail until 1862 when it became the county courthouse. The present elementary school building was dedicated on July 14, 1935 by President Franklin D Roosevelt who called it "a unique opportunity to open up opportunities for all children regardless of social backgrounds" The new elementary school served grades Pre-Kindergarten through 4th Grade until 1973 when grades 5-8 were added; then it served grades 9-12 until 1978 when 6th grade was added In 2002/2003 10th anniversary edition of "The Tribune" reported that Oakdale’s only high school (then known as Parkview High School) closed its doors due to financial difficulties caused by enrollment growth within neighboring districts while 2 other high schools continued operations; both locations have since reopened under different names . After much lobbying by community members both publically & privately (and some behind closed doors) efforts finally succeeded in 2013/2014 resulting in opening of “Oakdal HIlls High School” – located adjacent to & across street from our current Elementary School !!

The Oakdale community was founded in 1887 by farmers from Benton and Wright counties. In 1907, the first high school was built in Oakdale and it served as the elementary school until 2003 when it merged into Grand Forks High School. The history of Oakdale goes back to 1887 when farmers from Benton and Wright counties Came to settle near what is now known as downtown Grand Forks. They named their new community "Oakdale" after an oak tree that they saw on their drive through the forest.. The first post office opened in 1888, and served residents of both Benton County and Wright County until 1903 when it merged with Grand Forks High School. One of the early businesses in Oakdale was a grocery store which operated from 1902-1906. This store became known for its delicious apple pies which were a popular snack for many years! Over time, other businesses such as hardware stores, restaurants, pharmacies, agriculture dealerships etc., popped up along with several small schools - all serving the needs of locals and visitors alike during those initial days before technology made life much easier! In recent years (2005-present), there has been an increase in business activity due to growth within North Dakota's oil industry; however, much effort still needs to be put into preserving local heritage including buildings that date back over 100 years!
