Oakdale is a small town in the state of Minnesota, located about 25 miles south of the Twin Cities. The population was 3,822 at the 2010 census. The Oakdale post office was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1954. It was then renamed to its current name. Oakdale is located at (55.501875, -93.914219). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,812 people, 909 households, and 659 families residing in the town. The population density was 334.0 people per square mile (151.3/km²). There were 1,017 housing units at an average density of 158.2 per square mile (60.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 1% Asian; and 2% from two or more races

Oakdale is a small town in Hibbing, Minnesota, United States. The population was 693 at the 2010 census. The Oakdale post office has been in operation since 1872. The namesake of Oakdale is probably Elijah Woods, who came to Hibbing in 1849 and started a country store. The first settlers in what is now Oakdale were Methodist Episcopal missionaries led by Rev. Samuel Rogers. They arrived around 1851, and built a farm on the east side of the creek that flows through downtown Hibbing into the Mississippi River. In 1865, they built a log cabin on the west side of the creek. A few years later they added a millrace to their property and named it after them - "Oakdale" (the oak tree) being one of their early deeds). In 1870-71, James Baily helped organize and begin construction of the Minnesota State Capitol in St Paul. He also helped found Region 3 of the American Federation Of Labor (AFL). When building began on Maynard Avenue across from town hall – then called Main Street – Mrs. Baily set up her home as an observation deck overlooking proceedings inside the new state capital! On October 10th, 1871 saw what may have been America’s first school strike when teachers at Maplewood School walked off their jobs because they could not afford to pay raises demanded by Gov Colfax's New Deal program; this event forever changed education in America! nearby Hibbing picked up where Maplewood left off with striking teachers throughout 1922-1924! During World War II many veterans settled down in rural areas like Oakdale for fear that war would take away their farms and homes which would then be used for military barracks or munitions plants; however no such thing happened as Oakdalers worked tirelessly day and night making products that contributed significantly to our country’s success during wartime despite difficult economic times postwar period! After hostilities ended there were largescale peacetime efforts to rebuild everything destroyed by war including awarding over $100 million dollars worth of contracts to local businesses thru Recovery Act legislation known as “New Deal”!!!! This was accomplished despite great resistance from some quarters especially within farming families who had lost so much land & lifeblood during combat!!!
