Oakdale is a small town in the state of Minnesota. It is located in the St. Louis County area, about 25 miles west of Minneapolis. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Oakdale is part of the Maple Grove Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to what is now Oakdale were wagoners who traveled through this area on their way from Illinois to North Dakota. In 1857, Zenas Witherspoon and his family settled in what is now Oakdale after traveling from Iowa City, Iowa. They started a farm that soon produced corn and other crops as well as cattle and pigs. In 1861, when Minnesota became an United States territory, Witherspoon donated land to the government for a school district which would eventually become Maple Grove School District #2 (now Maple Grove School District). In 1892, Pioneer John Fenton settled in what is now Oakdale after moving from Red Wing, Minnesota with his family of six children and his wife Sally. He began lumbering on some of the initial land that he donated to the community. Fenton built one of the first churches in town – Christ Church (later known as First Methodist). The village then had two grocery stores and a post office before it lost its status as a township in 1904 when Prairie Township was organized by order of Governor Quesnay Morris Ballinger into three separate municipalities: Maple Grove (northwest corner), Hennepin Township (southwest corner), and Stroudsburg Township (east side). It wasn’t until 1912 when another settler named Addison Sheahan bought 5 acres near present-day Elm Street and set up shop growing hay, oats, wheat, potatoes etc., before he sold out to J.P.'s Mill & Elevator Company for $10 per acre ($160 total) This early growth led to many businesses including Sheahan’s Restaurant which opened its doors on Main Street on October 1st 1902 serving hot meals all day long! Eventually this business became known as Sheahan’s General Store which served groceries both inside and outside until 1974 when it closed due to fire damage within days! The building still stands today but has been leased out since 2007 for use as an event hall! After years of being without a school or church because timber sales dwindled so much during World War I due to prohibitionism against selling arms abroad following WWI riots throughout America,-on April 15th 1921 Reverend Everett Hoyt officiated at groundbreaking ceremonies for Apple Valley Lutheran Church with Pastor Mabel Loeffler officiating from Herold Christian ReformedChurch situated just east of Apple Valley Road next door - making this our second church! Mrs Cook founded Our Lady Help Of Christians congregation on May 10th 1914 also located east of Apple Valley Road next door with Rev Hoyt officiating services each week while Pastor Loeffler preached every Sabbath morning;Following her death Mrs Cook's husband Dr Harry Cook reopened Our Lady Help Of Christians congregation on December 6th 1916 having married Evelyn Dixon On February 14th 1920 Rev Hoyt left pastor's duties following service atApple Valley Lutheran Church after nearly 35 years service & 4 pregnancies resulting in 28 children born ranging in ages 8 thru 2 yrs old;Today Our Lady Help Of Christians congregation offers worship services 7days/wkend inclusiveof Holy Communion& Baptism w/ parents or guardian if available

Oakdale is named for a grove of oak trees that once stood along the banks of the Mississippi River near what is now its downtown. The town was founded in 1858 by John Sutter and his family as Sutter's Camp on an oxcart route between Minneapolis and St. Anthony Falls. In 1860, Sutter donated land to the town for a school and church, which were built on First Street west of what is now Main Street. The first post office was established in 1859, and the first store opened in 1860. In 1870, Oakdale became a circuit village when it was annexed by Minneapolis; however, it remained separate from the city until 1907 when it united with Minneapolis to form the present-day Minneapolis-St.Paul metropolitan area
Oakdale is a town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,649 at the 2010 census. The name "Oakdale" is derived from the merger of two towns: Oak Hollow and East Oaks. The first settler in the area was John Davenport in 1854. A post office called Oakdale was established in 1856, and remained open until 1961. In 1870, JF McNaught established a sawmill on the CDP of Clearwater River which became known as McNaught's Mill after him. In 1898, Oakdale school trustees voted to name their high school after Mrs. Anna Hazen Dodge who had been instrumental in helping establish Minneapolis public schools as early as 1892. The first class graduated from Hazel Dell High School on September 17, 1899. Mrs Dodge later donated land for an additional high school which was built and opened in 1902 named Hazen-Dodge Academy after her donation. As a result of numerous natural disasters such as hurricanes Agnes (1936) and Floyd (1962), Oakdale experienced significant growth over time including annexation by nearby Bloomington in 1967 and again by Hennepin County in 1998 following passage of the Minnesota Statehood Act . The community has continued to grow steadily through annexations by other municipalities since then with a current total population of 3,857 residents
